[CL - matchday 6] BVB vs Anderlecht

Borussia Dortmund vs RSC Anderlecht

09.12.2014, Signal Iduna Park, kick-off time: 20:45 CET

Time for CL football in the Signal Iduna Park when Dortmund welcomes RSC Anderlecht for the final matchday of the group phase.
BVB is in the pole position to win the group 2 points ahead of the Gunners which have to travel to Galatasaray.

BVB will miss midfield leader Sebastian Kehl due to a bruised rib and of course midterm injured Marco Reus. Socratis and Ji wont be in the roster as well.

Interesting will be whether Klopp sticks to the weekends backline with Langerak and then Pisczek, Hummels, Subotic, Schmelzer or he will make some changes again in order to keep the squad fresh for the next Bundesliga matchday. Maybe Sahin will get some minutes as well as Kuba in this match, but we have to keep in mind that Anderlecht are not that bad as the result of 3-0 tells. In the match in Anderlecht, the BVB was extremely efficient and always scored at the right time.

Starting lineup, confirmed:

Langerak
Durm - Subotic - Ginter - Schmelzer
Gundogan - Sahin
Mkhitaryan - Kagawa - Grosskreutz
Immobile

Bench: Weidenfeller, Bender, Kirch, Jojic, Blaszcykowski, Aubameyang, Ramos

Interesting lineup. Good to see Sahin start and Kirch/Kuba in the squad, that left side though of Ginter, Schmelzer, and Grosskreutz. Piszczek, Hummels, Aubameyang, and Bender are all rested.

Langerak starting is also positive news, deserves to continue after at least inspiring some confidence in goal unlike Weidenfeller so far this season. Not sure what to expect of that front four but they're all in desperate need of form, hopefully they'll deliver.

A point is enough to win the group, surely that's manageable with this lineup.

I guess Langerak will have more work to do with that defense shielding him. p

Dortmund 1:1 Anderlecht

Draw was enough to win the group and so it proved, although the profligacy and ineffectiveness in front of goal again was frustrating at times. Mkhitaryan, Grosskreutz, and Kagawa can't buy a goal at the moment, they're all really struggling for form and confidence right now. Immobile played pretty well today though, deserved his goal, and Sahin's display was more than pleasing considering it was his first game after a long injury spell. Langerak seemed assured in goal once again, nothing he could do about the goal though mind.

Winning this group was the minimal expectation looking at how awful GS has been this year and the problems Arsenal has been facing too so it's satisfying to have gotten the job done. Haven't really thought about the draw for the next round yet, will look into that in the coming days but don't really have any preferences right now mainly because the league form is very concerning and that needs to improve drastically between now and February before we can think about the CL again. Europe should still very much be a secondary priority, but the results obviously don't support that for one reason or another.
