BVB Pre-Season 2014/15

This will be the thread for anything related to Dortmund regarding the domestic competitions the team will be competing in for 2014/15. The Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and the DFL Superpokal (German Super Cup).

Dortmund finished in the top two for each of the last four seasons to establish themselves as one of the high powers of German club football, winning the league twice and the Pokal once in that period. They'll be looking to build on that success next season and continue their climb to become a power of the European game.

Some early news regarding the official fixture list for next season...

August 13 - DFL-Superpokal - Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich (Venue: Signal Iduna Park)

August 16/17 - DFB-Pokal, 1st Round - Stuttgarter Kickers v Borussia Dortmund (Venue: TBD, as their Degerloch-based stadium is still closed until early 2015. The game may be played at Mercedes-Benz Arena, home of their parent club VfB Stuttgart)

Dortmund's confirmed pre-season schedule, which starts July 5th.

July 15: Hessen Kassel (A)
July 19: Heidenheim (A)
July 22: Osnabruck (A)
July 27: RW Essen (A)
August 10: Liverpool (A)
August 26/27: Waldhof Mannheim (A) ~ charity match

The pre-season training schedule was also released about a week as to how things will be performed when the players return next month. The senior squad will be divided into four groups: one for players who will return late from World Cup duties, one for players who played international friendlies this month but won't go to Brazil, one for non-internationals, and one for players recuperating from long-term injuries. Everyone has been given an individually-tailored training programme and the usual intensive pre-season training won't start until mid to late July.

The squad will also have two training camps in July, one for five days in Kirchberg from 8-12 and one in Bad Ragaz from the 29th till August 8.

By the way, here's a special treat for those who were wondering what kind of physical condition Ilkay Gundogan is currently in..

That's really worrying.

From what little I had read on him, he has a good work ethic, so I can only think his beer belly is a symptom of him giving up and possibly spiraling into some sort of depression.

And wtf are the medical staff at the German NT and Borrusia doing here?

Well, German nationalteam medical staff has nothing to do with him. At most he might visit someone like Müller-Wohlfahrt on his own, but other than that his injury has nothing to do with Germany. In general I don't even get his injury, very weird stuff.

Reus ruled out of action for 3 months, so unfortunately he will miss the start into the new season and preseason

Borussia Dortmund’s attacking midfielder Marco Reus will be out for longer than initially expected. The 25-year-old is now set to be sidelined until September.

Reus, who suffered a partial ligament tear in his left ankle in Germany’s World Cup warm-up match against Armenia on Friday, has undergone further examination at Dortmund's Knappschafts hospital over the last few days under the guidance of club doctor Markus Braun, in close consultation with Germany’s national team medical staff.

The tests revealed that, in addition to his ankle injury, Reus also suffered damage to the heel bone with an expected recovery time of about three months, according to Dr. Braun.

I hope, I don't want him to leave the Bundesliga. But if anything will stop Barca from getting him now it is his injury I think. That was also the only reason why Gündogan stayed. Next year both will be gone unfortunately.

In that condition, I'll be shocked if Gundogan gets a starting spot at Dortmund next season Frank.

Sure Ed, but I would think IF he overcomes the mysterious injury he can overcome his weight issues. I am more troubled with the injury.

Agree with Frank, once his back feels better or whatever it is and he's able to start playing again, the weight will fall off.
