[BL - matchday 26] Hannover vs BVB

Won 3-2 today, Aubameyang scored two and is now the fifth top scorer in the league and Kagawa got one (also had an assist, baffles me why he didn't start on Wednesday given his recent form). Reus had two assists, a bit too late from him now but still good to see.

Augsburg and Frankfurt lost while Hoffenheim and Bremen drew so the gap from 6th place is now just 5 points, just 4 from 7th place which will likely go to Europe this year given that the Pokal is won by a team in the top 6 (four of them still active in the cup) since UEFA changed the rules with cup runners-up no longer getting a EL spot and 7th place going instead.

Still some tough games to come against Bayern and Gladbach after the break, but the schedule is a lot lighter after that and the team has just one game a week now until the end of the season. Might well end up with a EL qualification even after such a torrid campaign, although at this point I'm not too bothered about it if we make it or not. Thursday night games could be a distraction next year from our main objective which is finishing in the top 4 so I wouldn't be too devastated if we miss out, even though it'd be cool to play in a European competition where we have very realistic chances of winning the whole thing.

Mes, I actually heard Shinji had been poor in the matches directly leading up to the Juventus second leg.

3 assists in his previous 6 league games prior to today, more than the likes of Kampl and Mkhitaryan had been managing so I'd be inclined to say he was in better form, even if it's still nowhere near his best version ala his first BVB stint of course.

Klopp recently called Kagawa the 'sausage in the sandwich' (don't ask why ) underlining his importance to the team and he didn't even give him a minute against Juve over the two legs which is poor considering nothing else he was doing was working out.

back from my stag party and i only have some blurred memories of the match, but hey, we won! ;-) incredible how it is now still possible to reach one of the european spots. the next matches will show the direction but we are out of the relegation battle for sure.
