[BL - matchday 25] BVB vs 1.FC Köln

Saturday 14.03.2015
kick-off: 18:30

vs

Duel versus a direct neighbor in the table (10th vs 11th), hence it is very important to win this match. We would definetly say goodbye to any relegation fears and could concentrate on anyhow securing an international spot, of course depending on how the other contenders play at the weekend.

Köln was able to gain important 3 points against Frankfurt at the weekend and hope to at least hi-jack 1 point from the Signal Iduna Park.

In October, Köln won the home match against Klopp's boys with 2-1 when Weidenfeller had a disastrous match. Immobile scored for the BVB.

Nuri Sahin will not be able to play tomorrow and is also in doubt for the Juve match on wednesday. it's really bad as especially the combo Gündogan/Sahin began to click again and the creativity they provided was key for our winning streak.

the possible line-ups according to kicker:

Weidenfeller - Kirch, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelzer - S. Bender, Gündogan - H. Mkhitaryan, Kampl, Reus - Aubameyang

Horn - Olkowski, Maroh, Mavraj, Hector - Risse, Vogt, M. Lehmann, Peszko - Deyverson, Ujah

Köln are extremely confident for this match and will most likely start with 2 strikers, Ujah and Deyverson (both scored against Frankfurt)

Starting lineup, confirmed:

Weidenfeller
Kirch - Subotic - Hummels - Schmelzer
Gundogan - Kehl
Mkhitaryan - Kagawa - Reus
Aubameyang

Bench: Langerak, Sokratis, Bender, Blaszcykowski, Kampl, Immobile, Ramos

Assuming that Sokratis, Bender, Kampl, and maybe Immobile are being rested for the Juve game already but it's still a strong enough side to beat a pretty average Koln side at home. We'll need better from Kagawa and Reus this time though and hopefully a better showing from Heno as well, the team needs to come out firing from the beginning because the longer we go without a goal the more defensive Koln will become and our frustration could even lead to another counter ending in a goal against us.

Hopefully it's nothing like the first game against them earlier this year, 3 points are a must with Bremen, Augsburg, and Schalke all dropping points earlier today.

Toothless performance again. We wouldn't have scored even if we played for another two days here. Should have though when Aubameyang handballed that ball in (not sure why he did that, he had enough time to adjust himself to head it in instead I thought on first view).

At least this should finally put the rest to any hopes of finishing in the top 6 this year, it just isn't going to happen. The team is just not up for that task any longer. We'll need to play a lot better on Wednesday if we are to topple Juve. Reus, Kagawa, and Aubameyang will need to be at their sharpest (Mkhitaryan and Immobile too if they start although I don't think they will). I'm sure they'll be a lot more fired up than they were, whether that'll be enough we'll only find out on the day of the game.

first half was really an open match and Köln had the better chances focussing on their counter attacks. BVB was dominating the second half without creating much, another disappointing performance from Micky and Shinji. Kampl brought some creativity on the pitch when coming in but in the end we did not deserve more that this point.

thought PEA could have scored it with a header as well, but in the replay it looked quite different. on to the next one, Champions league vs JUVE
