Victor Ikpeba Set For Dortmund Exit
Victor Ikpeba’s days in Dortmund look to be numbered, as it is becoming inceasingly obvious that Borussia have lost all patience with the former ‘African Player of the Year’.
"Right now, neither the club or the player is happy with the situation, and we have to consider where we go from here”, stated Dortmund’s director of sport Michael Zoric in a recent interview, "If there is a club that is interested in Victor, we are ready to talk."
The writing had been on the wall for quite some time already, but the most glaring sign, that the ‘yellow-and-blacks’ are preparing to offload the gifted Nigerian striker, occurred last weekend, when Matthias Sammer neglected to include a healthy Ikpeba from the depleted squad that traveled to Freiburg -despite the fact that injuries and suspensions had reduced Sammer to having just 17 (including Ikpeba) eligible players to call on. To Ikpeba’s great embarrassment, Sammer elected for a squad of 16.
Many in the know, have attibuted Sammer’s snub to the 27-year-old forward's lackluster performance in a friendly against Rot-Weiss Essen three weeks ago, in which Ikpeba wasted his rare playing time, by moping hopelessly around the field, in obvious disinterest.
Spare a thought for Ikpeba though, whose failure to live up to his lofty billing since joining Borussia Dortmund from AS Monaco in the summer of 1999, can be in large part attributed to the terminal illness of his wife, who he sadly lost to cancer in May of 2000.
Unfortunately there is little room for sympathy in the ultra-competitive cut-throat world of big money football, meaning that the Borussia management will be eager to cash in on Ikpeba while his name still carries some weight. __________________________________________________ __________
What a pity!Such a big player that I couldn't believe would acept joining Bundesliga has done nothing and is leaving. He was a brilliant player.I cannot forgethis amazing goals and technqiue.
Bobic hasn't been so successful.Though he runs a lot and has a very good zonal sense but he's a very poor finisher.
Ikpeba is 2-3 years younger than Bobic.I really don't know if it's the right decision.
