2013 U20 South American Youth Championship

Come on guys. There should be a thread about this by now. Starts tonight. Slacking.



So we have a bunch of grapes for the tourney logo.

Matches to be played in Mendoza & San Juan, Argentina. There were some 2011 Copa America matches played in these locations and the playing conditions were not very good but that was during Argie wintertime. This tourney is being played in summertime over there.

Quite a few teams will fancy their chances of winning this and it will certainly you would think be more open in who triumphs as the Brazilian team is not as good as the last edition but Brazil of course will be one of the sides that will fancy their chances regardless.

Read elsewhere that the Argies will be very attack minded in the tournament and that the Brazilians are confident that their midfield will see them through.

Hope there are downloads for these games as I won't be able to see all matches live. If you see any downloads for any of these games can you put them up in this thread. Thanks in advance.

Excuse my slacking, honestly don't have power to do a writeup about everything again =/

Argie side are indeed much more formidable, and the offense is the highlight - Ricky Centeriun and Iturbe flying down the wings - Lanzini and Alan Ruis as the playmakers, and the very talented Luciano Vietto will be leading the line now that Sampdoria and Palermo did not agree to release Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala to the tournament, even if he's not really a pure 9.

Other then Dybala and Icardi some of the shocking decisions I thought were not including the likes of Leandro Paredes and Lucas Ocampos that some of you will surely remember if you followed the U-17 Sudamericano.. both baffeling calls, although again there's loads of offensive talent in this team anyways - and it's expected to be a real battle for the 1st place this time around.

Chille also looks very solid to me aswell with Nicolas Castillo, Diego Rubio and Igor Lichnovsky who are all talents worth to keep an eye of from the little I've seen them, quite liked Lichnovsky the CB who looks like his next destination is Europe for sure.

Uruguay are led by Nico Lopez who's my bet to win the top-scorer and MVP of the tournament even if his country might not win, he's better in several levels then players in this group age and should alone make Uruguay contenders - and his partner in crime Gonzalo Bueno is a kid I've heard great things about aswell, and I'm spotting 2 kids from the U-17 here too Gaston Silva and Emiliano Velazquez who did good there and it's interesting to see how they developed since.

Brazil aren't nearly as formidable as the last time around obviously, but there's as always loads of talent to go around in all areas of the field from, and I might get more indepth on them later on.

Don't waste your time on jealously; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

The race is long, and in the end - it's only with yourself.

Anyone has the schedule?

We were good also because of the manager, Ney Franco. Mano got his team and destroyed in the olympics with the similar and better players

Anyway, will be tough for us to win as it is in Argentina.


U-20 south american tournaments are always cool. Never seen a boring one.

And when I see it, i don't know why but we normally win it


Is Piazon gonna play for us stanko?

Do you have the Brazil squad?

is Felipe Anderson from Santos gonna play? Adryan and Bebeto's son Matheus are in it!

The three players that atand out from the rest in the Argentinean squad are Lanzini, Iturbe and Centurion. All very talented fellas.

Lanzini plays the 10 role in the hole and River has done serious disservice to him by benching him too frequently despite him being the best offensive player for River alongside the Uruguayan Mora. He is a playmaker, but more in the mold of Pablito Aimar than Riquelme. His best assets are his dribbling and ball control with great change of pace. He still has some way to go in the passing department, but he does show great understanding on the game. The main player of the team no doubt.

Next comes Iturbe. Most people already know of him. After showing amazing feats in the 2011 edition, he has somewhat faded after his move to Porto. But I love the fact that he will be in River now, teaming up with Lanzini and hopefully Villalva. Certainly the wild card of the team and the obvious candidate for the tournament's MVP if he regains his form.

Next is Centurion. Uncannily similar to Di Maria, he has been brilliant for Racing for about a year. Great dribbler and lovely acceleration. Expect him to dribble numerous circles around the defense.

The obvious exclusion ia of Leandro Paredes. While the absence of Icardi and Dybala is upsetting too, but Paredes is just in a whole another level. A playmaker supreme who seems to have already mastered the arts of passing, dribbling and dead ball situations. You can't help but notice the obvious similarity with Riquelme. Undoubtedly the most talented U-20 Argie around, even better than Lanzini and Iturbe.

Another player unlucky to not to be in is Lucas Mugni (because he will be 21 later this year). An enganche with abilities similar to the majority of the Argie engamches we have seen.

I have only seen Misael play, and he is pretty slow, fat and a poor man's Dunga.

The others i still have to see them play.

Anyway, enjoying this argentina defeat. let's hope chile can keep on.

I thought that Quintero was the most impressive individual in the opening matches which is not too surprising given his rep atm. There were times in the Colombian match where he was so way ahead of everyone else on the pitch in his play. Colombia played some really good football at times but they didn't create enough chances when they were on top and of course they will face better teams than Paraguay. They faded quite badly in the second half even before the Quintero substitution and on chances made Paraguay can feel hard done by that they didn't get a draw at least.

What's to say about Argentina other than disappointing. Only saw the first half but it wasn't particularly good from them. Maybe they need more time to gel. Poor result for them even with the referee trying to help them. No way where the two incidents involving Fuentes worthy of being sent off.

we are having chronic problems coming out to the game.

Misael not exactly a guy with vision that can dictate the game

I have confidence in our attack though.

This team seems to be good. Just need to gel a bit more.

Also it is the first game. Second half we should be more agressive hopefully
