There, they have the list Don Balon made in 2001 as well. That list was atrocious, and it seems, so is this list. I could make a better one.

Whats so atrocious about it?

I mean you can never go right in those type of lists as always they'll be ppl left out, but i'd say a big % of this list is preety correct atleast off the top of my head reading the names right now(obviusly if I take a closer look and check it better i'll find names being ridiculessly skipped over, and there are some names and players on the corrent list I don't even know, but still this is a good list)

Don't waste your time on jealously; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

The race is long, and in the end - it's only with yourself.

I get the impression he just bombs through a few seasons in football manager and sees what youngster get good stats and then sticks them on this list.

Go on then make a better list.

The names mentioned largely are very well known though, boring and have been discussed to death and mentioned on XT many times before.

One interesting entry though is Ryad Boudebouz of Sochaux. Not at a big club so very rarely gets attention but saw him play for the first time a couple of weeks ago and made a mention of him in the French forum just at that one look at him. Good to see him imcluded.

Van Wolfswinkel and Vossen are banging in the goals away from the big leagues.

De Gea is another obvious one but there is a young keeper at Kiev who looks like he is going to be on a par with him.

It's atrocious for many reasons. If you spam 100 names, you are bound to get 20-30 of them right, any fan can do that. From a professional footie analyst team, and I'd expect such lists to be compiled by them to appear in national newspaper, should get at least half of it right.

The reasons why 2001 list atrocious include for example that they have so many players that didn't become anybody, and also the fact that back then, they even ranked them according to talent, and you can see some shocking names in top 10-30, while some current big name players are at 80s and 90s.

And last, that 2001 list didn't include some of the big name and world class players. Ronaldinho? Essien? EtoO? Gerrard? Villa? I can go on, and they were young back then.

This time though, they didn't rank them, which is a good start. But again, I have a feeling that you can make a better list just by looking through FM stats for current youngsters.

Though I am surprised not to see Aaron Ramsey in that list.

Ranocchia is kind of an obvious exclusion.

Listing big name young players is nothing though. What does it prove if the whole world knows they will automatically go on to make top grade players anyway, most of them. Just for lists sake.

Much better and more cred is to list players that are not playing in the big clubs and are not Brazilian or Argentinian. Every Jack jumps on board those ones.

You are right, but most of big name stars come out of those big clubs or big leagues or from Argentina/Brazil. So they are not necessarily wrong for listing them.

No not wrong but like you said they can just google to come up with 90% of the players on that list and lots of them have been mentioned for many years now. Hardly any new names.

They mention Traore but ignore Torje for an unknown reason.


And as Barça fan I must say it's pretty soon to place Muniesa there. That guy just played a couple of games with FCB and I rate Fontas over him.

Yes, his case is an interesting one. He got his fame thanks to his very early debut that Pep handed to him, and basically that he ****ed up by getting red card, although the ref was also to blame. Suddenly, people thought, including me, that he is the next Barca boy becoming a first team world class player.

When in reality, he just doesn't seem better than Sergi Gomez, let alone Fontas.

I still expect him to come good, because he is a different kind of defender to Fontas and Sergi Gomez, it seems. The latter two are classy on the ball, big and good passers, like Pique, it seems, whereas Muniesa is very pacy, short for a CB but very agile and hard defender in the making, like Puyol. I think it's better to have one of each kind for a balance. One to pass the ball out of defense, the other to cover the big defender with his speed and agility.

The most veteran football magazine in Spain. I don't buy it since long ago, but it used to have good articles.

About the list of 2001, I don't think it has a particular order, I wouldn't say it's an atrocious list.

Muniesa is not really "short" though, I think he's about the same height as Fontas and Sergi.

1.79 m according to wiki, which is pretty short for a cb, though at 18 he still might be growing.

Fontas is 1.86.
