UEFA CUP : Group D

We were drawn in Group D

Basel
Hamburg
Rennes
Dinamo Zagreb
Brann

Avoided the biggest teams, but are some decent sides here. Should be an exciting fall.

I'm holding Zagreb as slight favourites ahead of Hamburg, but I really hope we can fight for a spot in the next round.

An open group imo. The only side I can remember we have any history against is Basel, who beat us 7-6 on aggregate in the Uefa cup 1st round back in 2000.

13.09.2000 00:00
FC Basel - Brann 3 - 2 (1-0)

47 Per-Ove Ludvigsen
72 Thorstein Helstad

27.09.2000 00:00
Brann - FC Basel 4 - 4 (4-1)

3 Azar Karadas
8 Geirmund Brendesæter
30 Sergei Terehhov
40 Azar Karadas

Lets hope Azar and Helstad adds to their tally against them

We are in great form now haveing beaten Ajax away and Hajduk Split in the big Croatian "derby" on sunday...

Don't know much about Brann, otherwise that the team is from Bergen, right? Do you have have any NT players?

I see Rennes as the thoughest opponent in the group for us.

25. october: Brann - Hamburg
8. november: Rennes - Brann
29. november: Brann - Dinamo Zagreb
5. december: Basel - Brann

As far as Brann having NT players.. Yeah, we mostly have NT players, either current or former ones, along with some former u-21 players that are on the verge of breaking into the proper NT.

The Norwegian NT captain Andresen and NT goalie Opdal, along with the most efficient Norwegian striker Helstad are noteworthy.. Along with 3 Icelandic NT players, two which plays in our central defense.

Sounds like a solid team ...and it's always difficult to play away.

Thorstein Helstad is our clubs 5th most scoring player with 86 goals in 164 matches.

Thorstein Helstad, Azar Karadas, Jan Gunnar Solli, Hassan El Fakiri and Eirik Bakke have Champions League experience. Most noteworthy are Bakke who played for Leeds when they went out in the semi-finals, and El Fakiri who was part of Monaco's squad that lost in the final to Porto.

One of our strengths is that we have players in every line that can produce goals. Our Icelandic CB Kristjan Sigurdsson for example has 6 goals under his belt this season.

Scorers this season:
(position) - caps / goals
Thorstein Helstad (ST) - 27 / 22
Robbie Winters (ST) - 28 / 15
Armann Björnsson (ST/CB) - 20 / 9
Petter Vaagan Moen (LW) - 28 / 7
Kristjan Sigurdsson (CB) - 31 / 6
Martin Andresen(CPT) (CM) - 27 / 6
Jan Gunnar Solli (RM) - 30 / 5
Erik Huseklepp (RW/LW) - 29 / 3
Azar Karadas (CB/ST) - 7 / 3
Erlend Hanstveit (LB) - 27 / 1
Cato Guntveit (RWB) - 20 / 1
Eirik Bakke (CM) - 16 / 1
Ramiro Corrales (LB/LW) - 13 / 1

Great to have some new posters in the Brann forum, but try to stick to English as much as possible since we have international posters here as well

Nice to see you back Indexi, hope you'll keep posting in here
(And Hrvatino too of course, despite not being a Brann fan )
