Norwegian clubs in the European cups

I just wanted to ask which teams from Norway will play in the UEFA Cup next season. Your season has jus started and it ends in November, so I think the table from last season is important for the UEFA Cup 07/08, am I right with that?

Rosenborg - Champions League (Qualify Round 2)
Fredrikstad - UEFA Cup (Qualify Round 1)
Brann - UEFA Cup (Qualify Round 1)
Vålerenga - UEFA Cup (Qualify Round 1)

------------------------------------------------

- Lillestrøm should have about 20% to get a Fair Play place that would give them a place in UEFA Cup (Qualify Round 1)
- Neither Lillestrøm, Stabæk, Start or Lyn wanted a Intertoto place so no Norwegian teams in that cup this year.

Lillestrøm SK was awarded a Uefa Cup spot, so they enter in the 1st qualifying round I'm guessing.

So the list is:

Rosenborg BK (TL06 1st place) - Champions League (2nd QF round)
SK Brann (TL06 2nd place) - Uefa Cup (1st QF round)
Vålerenga IF (TL06 3rd place) - Uefa Cup (1st QF round)
Lillestrøm SK (TL06 4th place) - Uefa Cup (1st QF round)
Fredrikstad FK (TL06 8th place, Norwegian Cup 1st place) - Uefa Cup (1st QF round)

Rosenborg are seeded in the 2nd QF round and unseeded in the 3rd QF round, and as far as I know neither Brann nor the other three Norwegian clubs are seeded. Rosenborg has a strong squad, have a long CL tradition and are always in with a shout.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosenborg_BK

Brann has a strong squad with several players with international experience, but are very moody. Brann can play excellent when they want, but are traditional underachievers so I'm not holding my breath for a place in the group stage as we usually stumble against lesser opponents.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sk_brann

Vålerenga has one of the strongest squads in the league, won the league in 2005, but are playing sub-par and is a bottom team at the moment.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vålerenga_IF

Fredrikstad FK is a typical mid to bottom table team, OK at home and weak away. However FFK have strong traditions both in league and cup, they've just opened a new stadium and has a faithful crowd behind them, maybe this can aid in their European quest.

Lillestrøm has a decent looking squad and are playing well in the league at the moment, main reason is their new manager, Tom Nordlie, who is a big fan of hard work.

Actually since Sevilla won the UEFA cup and qualified to CL, Fredrikstad go stright to 2.QR.

VIF, Brann and LSK are seeded in 1.QR

VIF, FFK, Brann are seeded in 2.QR, LSK depend on who qualify though the Intertoto cup.

Neither VIF, FFK, Brann or LSK will be seeded in 1.Round, but Rosenborg will be seeded in 1.Round if they lose the CL-3.QR

Norwegian clubs in the UEFA Cup

This is the really hot topic in Norway tonight: Käerjéng - Lillestrøm 1-0

Being knocked out of the UEFA Cup by the 8th best team in Luxembourg is a big shame for Norwegian football, and the Lillestrøm CEO was almost crying in a telephone interview on TV some minutes ago.

Norway will never climb on the UEFA nation ranking when no other club than Rosenborg gives a shit.

...on the other side it is of course really funny when this happens to our rivals.

Bit harsh on Tromsø there, I think we have done fairly well lately. Ok the first times in 87 and 91 was rather poor, but slightly improved for ever time we gotten the chance (not to many unfortently).

Yes, Tromsø are the "exception confirming the rule".

The draw for the next round of the UEFA cup qualifying :
Ekranas (Litauen) - Vålerenga
Brann - Suduva (Litauen)
Fredrikstad - Hammarby (Sverige)

Champions League qualifying :
Rosenborg - Tampere or Levski Sofia

Excellent draw for all clubs except Fredrikstad. Pretty much the best we could hope for.

If Rosenborg manage to go through today, they will meet Tampere in the final qualifying round for the Champions League. While I respect Finnish football, there's no doubt that this is an amazing chance for Rosenborg.

I couldn't see the match, but Rosenborg achieved a fantastic result in the second round of the Champions League qualifying yesterday, beating Astana 7-1 (10-2 overall).

Now they will meet Tampere in the last qualifying round. Should be very interesting, I'm definetly not going to miss it.

Congrats to you, Rosenborg will play in the CL this year. The result was a huge disappointment while TamU showed a good form but couldn't score. Hopefully the finnish team will take an away victory, which would be a good to rehersial for UEFA cup.

I think it's going to be difficult for Tampere to win at Lerkendal, unless Rosenborg decides to play with a reduced team. Historically, RBK is by far better at home when playing in Europe. Hopefully for Norway's ranking, both RBK, FFK, Brann and VIF will come up with the goods next week.

FFK - Hammarby 1 - 1
Suduva - Brann 3 - 4
VIF - Ekranas 6 - 0

FFK took the lead late in the game, but were beaten by a controversial 90th minute penalty for Hammarby.

Brann and VIF controlled their games easily.

Next round:

Brann - Club Brugge
Austria Wien - Vålerenga

An interesting draw for us. How did Valerenga perform lately?

Vålerenga has had a pretty bad season. Recently sacked their headcoach and promoted his assistant. This gave them a short-term boost in morale that lead to a few quick points, but they're back to losing again now. They'll probably fight to avoid relegation the rest of the season.

Their defense is very strong, among the best in the league, but they are incapable of scoring goals. Lack a natural goal-scorer, and they aren't overly creative up front.

Thanks.

Well, that should suit us, as our defense still allows some chances per games ... as long as Valerenga won't use them, that is. We have had some problems playing against teams who just try to destroy our game (without really traing to score themselves), but usually could break them down after some time - no idea how Valerenga's defense is in comparison to the situation in our league.

Overall, in contrast to our manager and most papers, I think we're definitely the favourites to go through (about 65-35), although I didn't forget what happened to GAK a few years ago and of course I still remember the painful exit against Viking in 2005... Could be two entertaining games.
