Zent St Petersburg v Monaco (Champions League round 2) 01/10/2014 20:00 Moscow time

Zenit who are currently in 1st place in their Champions League group will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Group.

A win here and Zenit will be 3 points clear of 2nd place after just 2 matches and if for example the Bayern Leverkusen v Benfica match finishes in draw, Zenit will be 5 points clear of a qualification place.

Zenit's 13 match winning run came to an end yesterday with a 0-0 draw v Spartak, Monaco lost 0-1 at home to Nice.

Team news - The only player currently looking at being ruled out is Kerzhakov due to issue with not getting any playing time. Zenit had a whole host of injuries and it looks like Danny, Smolynkov and Witsel all featured yesterday, with no Russian limit, Zenit will do an upgrade in midfield with Witsel taking Fayzulin's place.

The match is also vital for European co-efficents, other than Spain, Russia have the most co-efficient posts this season of any other team in the top 15. We currently are sitting in 6th place and increasing our lead over France who are 7th. This is so important to get our 3 Champions League places back.

Team -

Lodygin
Criscito
Lombaerts
Garay
Smolynkov
Witsel
Garcia
Danny
Hulk
Shatov
Rondon

Let's go Zenit!

Our next 2 matches are both at the Petrovsky - Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, given how the dynamics of the group have gone after game 1 and the fixture schedule, if we win both of these games then it would be almost impossible not to qualify.

Monaco team which played Nice yesterday -

Subasic
Carvallho (he was subbed off at half-time is he injured?)
Raggi
Kurzawa
Fabinho
Toulan
Moutinho
Carrasco
Silva
Berbatov
Germain

Well like most people I know the 3 obvious ones from their line up, Moutinho, Carvallho and Berbatov but I've never heard of any of the other players.

Surely the team we have now is far too strong for Monaco?

Other than Moutinho would any of their players get in our starting line up?

8,900 at Monaco v Nice, I knew they had horrible support but also knew they had twice the fan base of CSKA Morecambe.

Toulalan* -he is a decent DM, I don't think he could stand at our starting lineup at the moment, but I definitely wouldn't mind watching him with our jersey...
What about Kondogbia and Ocampos? Are they injured or something? They are pretty good...
Overall I don't believe we'll have any problem beating them, if we are in good shape...

Monaco haven't scored more than 1 goal in a single game this season. I foresee a Lodygin clean sheet.

Not heard of Kondogbia but have heard of Ocampos who didn't feature at the weekend.

We got to get maximum points v Monaco before the double header v Leverkusen.

Anyone remember the pasting we gave Leverkusen last time we played them in Germany - 4-1? Arshavin was on fire and came to the fore to most people in England for the first time on that performance as it was on mainstream TV in England.

Have we still got sectors closed for this match?

Can't believe 6 years tomorrow is the anniversary of when I went to watch us face Real Madrid at the Petrovsky in the Champions League.

If you wondering how the fk I would remember this, well it's because it's my wedding anniversary too! Nop the wedding anniversary wasn't at the Petrovsky, hell we weren't even married then.

Danny scored a brilliant goal and we were really unlucky to lose to a Hubocan own goal. He had a habit of scoring crucial goals in Europe, they were always own goal winning goals for the opposition!

Hopefully Danny won't be anything as poor as he was against Spartak. If he plays well then we'll win for sure.

Didn't realise our old friend Traore was now at Monaco, not that it matters much he is injured.

Anyone remember the time he skinned Bruno Alves alive when Traore played at Krasnodar? It was like Bruno Alves was running on ice the way Traore glided past him before scoring.

Bruno Alves, what a trashy waste of money. Good riddance Zenit got rid of him.

Zenit have won 30 and lost just 4 of their last 49 European Home matches at the Petrovsky, fingers crossed we will make it 31.

Let's do this Zenit!

He's probably fearing a draw since that would put both Monaco and Zenit at 4 points - a point total that Benfica would never be able to reach since it would require a miracle in two whole games.

Nothing special? I wonder how you'd describe Benfica then?Well on the way to getting shamed out of the CL group stage for the 3rd straight year.
