Zenit v Krylia Sovetov (Round 22)

Zenit will face Krylia Sovetov on Monday in a match which will mark the debut of Zenit's new manager AVB.

AVB has set the club a target of winning their last 9 games to make Zenit RPL Champions for the third time in the last 4 seasons. If Zenit win all their matches they will be crowned Champions.

Zenit are fresh off a stunning 2-1 away win v last years Champions League runner up Dortmund, they will be hoping the win kick starts the season.

Cristian Ansaldi has returned to the main group.

Prediction Zenit 5 Krylia 0 (Rondon hat-trick).

As far as line ups it's very hard to guess who he will start with. The logical line up would be the one which defeated Dortmund but with Rondon instead of Kherzakov.

Malafeev
Anyukov
Lombaerts
Hubocan
Criscito
Danny
Shatov
Fayzulin
Hulk
Witsel
Rondon

Let's go Piter!

Hubocan hasn't returned to practice yet, I expect Neto to get the nod. Wouldn't surprise me to see Ryazantsev in the lineup as well.

Just watched the highlights of the Dortmund match again and it is as clear as day, Shatov is really at the top level of his game, he played outstanding against Dortmund in 2 matches and must now be a lock in for the Russian national team.

I don't know if Spalletti got the final say on transfers but in Lodygin and Shatov for the best part of around 6 million pound and with x2 Russian passports too, these are are exceptional signings. Just to think these guys combined cost 4 million less than CSKA superflop Vitinho, I would hazard a guess there wages combined are less than his 40k per week too!

Transfer Market has finally increased Lodygin's value from 2 million to 5 million, Shatov is still the same. Hulk is upto 48 million and Witsel upto 35 million. The Shatov price is way too cheap, he has improved massively since he has been at Zenit and looked one of the best midfielders on show in the x2 matches v Dortmund.

I like Shatov too. He's just the type of player that AVB can take to the next level. I think he's going to love him.

Should be a big Zenit win after the impressive game against Borussia.

AVB attended the youth team's 2-1 v Krylia Sovetov today.

AVB has now confirmed his backroom staff and they are as follows -

Luis Martins is the new head coach`s assistant. The 50 year-old Portuguese specialist worked previously in the system of Sporting Lisbon, Portimonense, Braga, Middle-Eastern clubs, and in Tottenham Hotspur.

Another Portuguese specialist in Zenit`s staff is Daniel Sousa, who will work as an analyst-scout, and will research Zenit`s opponents. Sousa graduated from Porto University and has worked in Académica, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

José Mário Rocha will be Zenit`s physical conditioning coach. The Portuguese started working with Villas-Boas in Porto`s academy, after which he worked with our new head coach in all clubs where Villas-Boas worked.

Wil Coort is a 53 year-old goalkeeping coach from Holland. Coort worked from 1989 to 2005 as the goalkeeping coach in Den Bosch and Ajax (including as coach of Edwin van der Sar), after which he went to Porto`s system.

The Brazilian Eduardo dos Santos, who came to Zenit from Vitesse in Holland, will be in charge of player rehabilitation and recuperation.

Sergei Semak will be assistant coach as will Igor Simutkenov.

After this weekends amazing results, CL Football will almost be guaranteed for the next year if we put in anything like the sort of form we are capable of and let's not forget the Title is in our hands. If we beat Krylia tomorrow and Amkar next weekend we will go back to the top, Loko then play Spartak.

How I see it panning out, first of all Loko are not that strong on paper in another League the equal Title race would be Loko being say Everton and us being say Chelsea or in Spain, Loko being Bilbao and us being Barca/Madrid. We are a better team with better players and Loko have over-achieved, if we were hunting down Dynamo who I think on paper are the 2nd best team in the League this might be different but were hunting down a team who doesn't even get Europa League Football most seasons.

I see Loko slipping up in one of those 3 home easy games - Anzhi, Volga or Terek, luckily when we play Anzhi neither Bukharov or Bystrov is ineligible. I also don't see them beating Spartak and I definitely see us beating them. I am being generous in saying they will get max points from Rostov away and a combination of 4 points v CSKA and Krasnador away. We might slip up too but I think that win v Dortmund and a new manager will give us some serious momentum, I think we might slip up and draw v Dynamo and we might draw Anzhi away but I also see us beating Loko.

Points left -

Loko No more than 15 points. Total points 62 points.

Zenit - 23 points - Total points 64 points.

Zenit champions by 2 points.

As you can see that is why Dynamo and Spartak can't be Champions. Both only have 8 games left - Dynamo maximum points they can get is 64 and Spartak 64 but let's be honest, neither team is going to win all 8 games left and we have taken into account a couple of slip ups by both Zenit and Loko.

We will win almost all our games, if Dynamo and Rubin way away I might agree with you but these are at home and we normally win almost all our home matches.

We can win all our away games. Anzhi can't play Bukharov or Bystrov v us and Krasnador can't play Shirokov v us.

Loko can easily lose to Zenit (H), Krasnador (A), Spartak (H), CSKA (A) and Rostov (A).

Who do you see us losing to? Hardest match left Is Dynamo and that is at home, let's say for arguments sake we lose that. We will have too much at stake not to beat Loko away. The other away matches are just your normal standard RPL away matches against teams with not a lot left to play for.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to our recent form and look more towards what we have on paper, we have a new manager and most importantly we have Danny back

I think the win v Dortmund coupled with a huge winning margin win v Krylia tomorrow will give the players the confidence they need to get their 3rd RPL in 4 seasons and Loko will crumble under the pressure, I think Loko will eventually finish 3rd and Dynamo might get 2nd.

Arshavin back in training. Chance he could be used as a sub against Krylia.

Got a hunch they might be a surprise or 2 in the line up tomorrow. Sort of things are a DM being played - Tymo or possible a redeployment of one of full backs to try as a DM, it would not be the first time a player has changed his position later in his career, even bigger teams than us have redeployed players in different positions, the 2 which spring to mind are Smolynkov or Anslaldi.

Will be interesting to see if Anyukov is still captain, I really do give a very small chance Hulk becomes captain although this could be more likely in pre-season as to not mess with morale etc.

It's hard to call any lineup with a new manager a surprise. Except maybe Hulk being on the bench. Now THAT would be a surprise. Anyway rumblings are saying a youngster or two might see some playing time tomorrow. I'd say Evseev is the most likely.

Well he's a CM with more of an attacking focus. But so was Denisov as a youngster.
