Zenit v Atlético Madrid (CL match 5)

2nd v 1st is on the agenda when these 2 clubs lock horn in Russia this week.

If Zenit win and Porto fail to beat Austria Vienna then Zenit will qualify with 1 match to spare, if Zenit win the only way they cant qualify is if Porto beat Austria Vienna and then go to Spain and Beat Athletico in Madrid. If Zenit win their last 2 matches then it wouldn't matter if Porto win both theres 15-0 Zenit would qualify.

We are in very poor form right now and this is almost a mirror image of our form which coincided with Champions League Football last season.

On the injury front our main concerns are - Danny, Lombaerts and Ansaldi. It looks like Lombaerts might be ruled out, no news yet on Danny or Ansaldi but since both are training I would expect both to be available and both to start.

Lets do this Zenit!

Lombaerts coming back is way more important than Danny. Neto+Hubocan is a disaster.

Lombaerts watched yesterday's match with the fans in the Ultra section.

Super stuff.

You've spelled Atlético wrong.

He'll most likely bring a few canteranos but the team will try to win the game no matter who travels to Russia, make no mistake about it. Atlético always play to win. That's their strength and lots of players have to show they should be starting and getting more playing time which isn't easy to show considering how everyone are producing, game after another.

There is no upto date news on our injuries but the fact Lombaerts was in the ultra section with the fans for Friday's game would surely indicate the injury is not too serious. If we can get him, Danny and Ansaldi fit we should have more than enough to win this match despite our horrible form at the moment.

The weather looks like it will be -2 and our players have had an extra 24 hours to rest over the Madrid players which is all an advantage.

If the Kherzakov free kick had gone in instead of hitting the bar we would have been 2-1 up against the first choice Madrid team in Spain deep into the second half and I'm sure the match would have taken a complete different direction.

Fingers crossed this is our line up -

Lodygin
Ansaldi
Lombaerts
Hubocan
Criscito
Witsel
Danny
Shirokov
Hulk
Fayzulin
Kherzakov

Possibly Kherzakov not to start and either Arshavin or Shatov to replace him with Hulk maybe starting upfront.

We can do this Zenit!

No Diego Costa, David Villa, Filipe Luis, Diego Godin or Tiago for Atletico. Good good.

Great news, let's hope we are not missing Danny, Ansaldi and Lombaerts as there would be probably no advantage if we were missing those players and Athletico Madrid are missing theres.

We clearly can't function as a defense without Lombaerts and going forward, we are seem unable to convert our chances which if we had Danny I'm sure would be a different story. I also like Ansaldi as a full back although up until a couple of weeks Smolynkov looked solid but like the rest of our defence without Lombarts it doesn't look solid.

If we win this as far as I am concerned we are as good as through, I do not see Porto going to Spain and beating Madrid and if we beat Austria we are through anyway.

It' expected to be -3 degrees at kickoff. Those soft Spaniards won't be able to handle it. Just like Liverpool couldn't last year.

Klebbers will be pumped for this one.

He is not feeling too well at the moment but said there is no way he will miss this match, he will be tuning in from his sickbed which of course is complete with his Zenit Pillow cases and Zenit duvet.

If he does get caught short and need the pisser he will be donning his Bukharov dressing gown and Fayzulin slippers.

We won't let you down Klebsy my man

I can already tell that Kleber will be upset about our win since we will only have beaten Atletico's B team.

Kleber negative and upset about Zenit - No way Jose!

He is a massive Zenit fanatic and always puts a positive spin on our performances and results.

He seemed distraught and depressed about our loss on Friday.

Danny and Ansaldi both ruled out via injury.

Lombaerts had a good training session yesterday.

What is the reason for the Zenit's decline of form and the defeat from Rostov? Is Zenit ready enough to beat Atletico?
