Zenit v Rostov (Round 17)

Zenit tackle Rostov tomorrow knowing a win will open up a 6 point advantage at the top of the table. Zenit have not lost a home RPL game for 14 months.

Various players may be ruled out via injury but Hulk, Witsel and Criscito are all available having come back from Brazil, Belgium and Italy International matches.

Our next game is not for 4 days and is also another home match so squad rotation is not too critical with no travel needed.

Shirokov, Shatov, Danny and Ansaldi are doubts, Lombaerts has already been ruled out. With Hulk being back in Russia either late last night/early this morning I now expect him to start. I would also expect maybe 2/4 injury doubts to be fit.

Something like this tomorrow -

Lodygin
Smolynkov
Hubocan
Neto
Criscito
Witsel
Fayzulin
Danny
Arshavin
Hulk
Kherzakov

So I am going with Shatov, Ansaldi and Shirokov not being available.

I expect us to get a W back in the Win column and go 6 points clear, with all the teams below us playing each other this weekend and games running out, I expect 2 teams to fall out of the Title race. Zenit have already played the toughest 3 away matches available in the RPL - Rubin, Dynamo and Spartak. I really don't expect them to lose 3 times in the last 13 games after this and therefore this means any team in the chasing pack who do not win this weekend, will be ruled out of the Title picture.

Zenit lets go!

You think Danny will play? I had thought that he'd be out for sure.

Spalleti hasn't ruled him out.

I've put 3 of the 4 injury doubts as not being available to play - Ansaldi, Shirokov and Shatov and only Danny as available, I really think we will have 2 of the 4 available.

Fair enough. It's just from what I've seen it seems like Danny is the least likely to be available.

No matter though as long as everyone's fit for Atletico, especially Lombaerts.

Yep, Lombaerts and Hubocan are a decent CB pairing, Hubocan and Neto together was a total nightmare v Spartak Moscow but either of them pairing with Lombaerts we seem so much better though Hubocan is a better defender than Neto.

What do you think about Anyukov and Bystrov leaving? I hope this means we bring in additions, we have got the squad depth just right and only a bizarre freak run of injuries meant any mid/attackers in our squad were not available for the Spartak match. Normally we would have had 3-4 players on the Bench we could have brought in attacking positions but we just had defensive players available and no offensive players on the Bench, when tiredness crept in from our CL match a few days previous we couldn't make the necessary changes.

I see Dynamo Moscow beating Loko which will leave Loko 6 behind and the CSKA v Spartak match might be a draw which would leave us 5 clear. We can win our last 2 RPL matches before the Christmas break and I don't think it is unrealistic for us not to be possibly 8-9 points clear with just 11 matches left.

We will definitely win the RPL this season. We have had as many injuries as anyone else, lets not forget Tymoshuck was playing left back again Rubin Kazan earlier in the season! We have been without Hulk for long spells this season, without Criscito for 75 percent of the season so we have not had it easy on the injury front either but some clever transfer work has given us some decent depth now where injuries to key players mean we can bring in decent replacements.

Bystrov? Good riddance. He's been moping ever since we brought in Hulk. Anyukov though I think we would make a big mistake to let go. I feel like he's better than Smolnikov, and I don't really believe that Criscito wants to be here long term. Wouldn't shock me to see him ask for a move after the World Cup.

****, just had the result of the game spoiled for me by some asshole wanting to gloat over the loss. Now, I'll be extra pissed when I watch the game when I get home.

Dude... this is huge for the Championship. Either way if CSKA or Spartak wins... it has implications.

Spartak wins and we're tied on points... CSKA wins and they're only 3 points behind the league leaders and tied for 2nd/3rd. Who would have imagined that after the horrible loss in form they suffered over the past 2 months? Not many.

Then you also add the Dynamo vs. Loko match... and we're in for some fun. This just might be the weekend where Dynamo joins the title race and goes only 4 points behind 1st place.

IF both CSKA & Dynamo win... it could look like this:

1. Zenit 36
2. Lokomotiva 33
3. Spartak 33
4. CSKA 33
5. Dynamo 32
6. Krasnodar 30

And if Spartak and Loko win:

1. Spartak 36
2. Loko 36
3. Zenit 36
4. CSKA 30
5. Dynamo 29

Crazy!

Bad start to the weekend.

Luckily I missed the entire game.

Without Lombaerts at the back we seem to be a right mess. With him we are a complete different animal at the back.

Hope he is fit for the crunch CL match v Madrid.

Zenit, let's go!

Zenit's coach is severely under-utilizing this team's potential. Are you guys looking elsewhere?

From what was said during the game it sounds unlikely that Lombaerts will be ready for Atletico.

Depends on the CL. If we don't make it out of the group then Spalletti is a goner.

After today's round of matches we are still 3 clear at the top with 13 matches left.

Our run of winless games will not continue and assuming Dynamo beat Loko which I expect them to, we will still be 3 clear despite losing this weekend.

Next 2 matches - Terek and Ural too.

Should definitely be top at Christmas!
