Zenit in the 2013/14 Russian Cup

So Zenit's first opponent will be FC Tyumen who play in the second division. Should be an easy win provided we take it seriously. The game is on October 30-31st.

Rubin is a potential opponent in the quarterfinal. I hate playing those guys.

Full bracket(in Russian)

Here's the squad that travelled to play this game tomorrow:

Keepers: Baburin, Vasyutin

Defenders: Anyukov, Criscito, Lukovic, Neto, Smolnikov, Karpov

Midfielders: Shirokov, Zyryanov, Tymo, Mogilevets, Witsel, Shatov, Arshavin, Solovyov.

Strikers: Bukharov, Kireenko

Looks like we'll see Criscito as a CB and might see Solovyov's debut for Zenit.

Not too concerned about the Russian Cup, it is just a fixture congestion in the middle of important Champions League matches and RPL matches.

It is treated in the same way English clubs treat the League Cup where wholesale changes are made and shocks happen.

I wouldn't let it worry your Sviatoslav unless you put your months salary on Zenit winning in which case, unlucky!

Russian Cup is important. If you think otherwise then you weren't around in 1999. And it's not as if we put a reserve side out there.

Not important anymore pal with European Football on the agenda.

Most domestic cup competitions have been de-valued with the introduction of the Champions League in it's current format.

I am really not too concerned with the defeat whatsoever.

Dynamo Moscow, Rubin Kazan and Zenit all out.

Just shows exactly what I said, most teams do not take it too seriously.

Number 1 priority for Zenit is getting CL Football and winning the rpl, then doing well in Europe, this comes in third place which is why our better players did not travel to the match.

Now we go onto the important business of beating Amkar Perm at the weekend before the big one v Porto!

So it doesn't worry you when a team of Zenit first teamers lose to a second division team? Okay.

Our success this season will be based on getting out of the Champions League group stages and beyond and winning the RPL.

The Cup really doesn't matter too much and not being in it prevents any extra injuries and fatigue in players.

Doesn't matter to who? Obviously mattered to Spalletti who put a strong team out there.

You talk about the Champions League being important, but lets be honest here. Champions League is not a competition that Zenit can win. We're just there to fill out the numbers. The Cup on the other hand is a very winnable competition. And if it doesn't matter to you then you're not much of a Zenit fan.
