Rubin Kazan v Zenit St Petersburg (Round 2)

Zenit face a very tough task on Sunday when they face an away match against Rubin Kazan.

These 2 teams are the most successful Russian teams of the last 6 years winning 5 of the last 6 Titles on offer - Zenit with 3 and Rubin with 2.

Unfortunately despite Rubin Kazan's new 45,000 stadium being ready, it is being used for the Universide games and has no grass on this yet so the match will be played at Rubin's existing home. Rubin's new stadium will not be ready to play Football matches until around October/November time.

There is no team news to report from Zenit yet.

Hulk is back and training and there could be a chance he may feature, no news on wether Malafeev is fit to play, Shirkov I believe will be ruled out and Cristico has only just started light training.

Anything from 1 point upwards will be classed as a good result.

Shirokov might be available, he is training with the main group of players today.

Spalleti confirmed both Hulk and Shirokov will both go to Kazan, Malafeev still out.

I expect the following line up

Lodygin
Anyukov
Neto
Lombaerts
Hubocan Superman
Witsel
Bystrov
Fayzulin
Danny
Shirokov
Hulk

Bench

Kherzakov, Arshavin, Tymoshuk, Bukharovm Baburin and Zyranov.

There is not a long wrong with the line up or Bench. Just need a stronger CB and depending on where Hulk plays another striker. Would hardly call that a team including the Bench in crisis, stronger than any other Russian team including Anzhi to include the Bench. We will be bringing in a better CB and a better CF to allow Hulk to possibly play outside so we are only going to get stronger in our pursuit of our 3rd Russian Title in 4 seasons.

Rubin always give us lots of trouble. I'd be happy with a draw.

P.S. Dannys bit of skill to set up the opener at Krasnador was sublime.

Rubin should be tired after Serbia on a day less rest.

they didn't play at maximum.

some players were rested.

of course having to put sharonov there, kerzhakov is a better option than bukharov for zenit.

Spalleti has decided not to risk Shirokov.

No Malafeev, Gaslin, Rodic, Criscito or Shirokov for the game in Kazan tmrow.

3 Definate starters but Hulk is back.

Hulk Booooom!

With no Shirokov available I expect us to line up like this at Rubin.

Lodygin
Anyukov
Lombaerts
Neto
Hubocan
Witsel
Danny
Bystrov
Fayzulin
Hulk
Kherzakov

Bench - Bukharov, Tymoshuk, Arshavin, Zryanov, Djordevic and Baburin.

I can't see him starting with Zryanov 3 times on the trot giving his age. Tymo and Arshavin were way off the pace against CSKA, If they have been able to re-gain their fitness in the last 8 days then one of them might start, possibly Tymo instead of Kherzakov with Hulk pushed upfront by himself.

Let's do it Zenit!

Does anyone know what's happening with the RPL in the UK?

ESPN showed live matches every weekend most especially when there are no other Leagues playing, there would have been upto 3 matches this weekend live with Rubin Kazan v Zenit nailed. Are BT Sport taking over the coverage of matches from ESPN?

Same line that started v Krasnador

Lodygin - Anyukov, Neto, Hubocan, Lombaerts - Fayzulin, Zyryanov, Witsel, Bystrov, Danny - Bukharov.

Incredibly strong Bench - Baburin - Zuev, Khodjaniyazov, Lukovic - Mogilevets, Arshavin, Tymoshchuk - Hulk, Djordjevic, Kerzhakov.

With Hulk, Kherzakov, Arshavin and Tymoschcuk amongst the subs I hazard a guess this is possibly the strongest ever subs bench ever in RPL history.

Eremenko on the subs bench for Rubin.

M'Vila and Rondon both start for them.

Goallllllllllllllllllllllll!

1-0 Zenit Danny, superb run and pass by Danny who then finished off the move.

Zenit crisis? Lol were going to be top of the League!

Should have been 2, superb link up play by Bukharov and Danny but the keeper saved it with his legs.

Were looking very comfortable at the moment.

Bukharov very unlucky, great dribble and pass by Danny, saved by the Rubin keeper.

Funny image of Hulk sat on the Bench with like a desert style towel hat to protect him from the Russian heat!

Rubin Kazan 0 Zenit St Petersburg 1 (Danny) half-time.

We have looked much the better team and have had 4 decent chances, Bukharov perhaps should have scored but he has looked ok in some link up play.

Rubin have been restricted to long range shots but there has been some good defending by Lombaerts and Neto.

In midfield Witsel has looked the main man and Danny has had some decent dribbles.

Bystrov looks a little bit off the pace and I would expect him to be taken off for Hulk sometime in the first 15-20 mins in the second half. I would also expect Tymoshuck to come on for Zyranov in the second half and possibly Kherzakov or Arshavin for Bukharov.

Happy with the performance and result thus far and as for the crisis, if the crisis is being top of the League after 2 very difficult away matches then I'm all in for this crisis!

good news for rubin that they are only losing by one.
their central back look awful-

bukharov can not score a goal even to save his life.

eremenko not playing makes no sense but Rubin have a huge, huge problem with the foreign limit.

they lack good russian players....kulik and prudnikov only play due to the quota.

zenit playing well and with a decent striker would had finnish the first half leading by two.

P.S. Very hot in Kazan somewhere in the thirties, players taking water breaks and as said before it looks even too hot for Hulk who is wearing a towel over his head in the same fashion someone wears when they walk a Camel in the Sahara!

Looks a good match for Hulk to come into, there is some open spaces in the last third and we could well see a Hulk Booom!
