Looks like our 3 hardest matches in the group will happen within the first 4 matchdays. We end the qualifiers with a match against Ukraine at home which could be a decider.
Brutal first two matches. We need to come in with the greatest intensity. If they are going to fire Krstajic. It needs to be done now. We can't come into these qualifiers with those first two games and not be prepared.
Serb likes this.

I think the most important thing from the draw was to avoid Germany from pot 2. Interestingly, this group is the only one where all three top seeded teams are guaranteed a playoff.

I would rank Portugal and Ukraine in the middle of their respective pots, meaning there were both harder and easier teams we could have drew. If we have turned the corner as a team, it's a group we should be able to compete for the top spot. Will be difficult though and getting off to a good start will be crucial given the schedule.

We have never beaten Portugal or Ukraine.

28.03.2007: Serbia-Portugal 1-1
12.09.2007: Portugal-Serbia 1.1
29.03.2015: Portugal-Serbia 2-1
11.10.2015: Serbia-Portugal 1-2

17.05.2002: Ukraine-Serbia & Montenegro 2-0
17.08.2005: Ukraine-Serbia & Montenegro 2-1
26.03.2008: Ukraine-Serbia 2-0
11.02.2009: Ukraine-Serbia 2-0
15.11.2016: Ukraine-Serbia 2-0

Portugal are clear favorites in this group.

You can't compare those shit generations with this current one that we have though.
We have so much more talent this time around. Our two biggest weaknesses are: inexperienced defense and limited coach.

Matic has been playing CB for Manchester United the past 2 games which means Milenkovic can move to rb and Matic cb for the nt.

I would say that if we can somehow come away with 2-4 points from the first two matches we can qualify with the positive momentum. However, if we get 0/6 out of those first two matches, then we're putting significant pressure on ourselves to really win the remaining fixtures, which knowing our mentality would be very difficult.

It'll be interesting to see what happens this qualifying cycle as history tells us that after we qualify for the World Cup, we don't qualify for the following Euro. Hopefully this generation proves us wrong. The last time we did that was 1998-2000, which is a very long, long time.

We have 4 friendlies lined up before the qualifiers start and our games against Portugal/Ukraine.

3 of them will be for agent purposes, no surprise there. We will be playing against sh*t shows from the Caribbean like Jamaica and Barbados.

Then, our only "true" A-team friendly will be against Germany, according to non-confirmed sources. This will be a great test for us, if true. A great game for Jovic as well to feel comfortable with the NT playing against some of the regular competition he faces for Frankfurt.

I also have a feeling that if Krstajic stays, he will be looking to get a draw against both Portugal and Ukraine, away. He will probably see those results as a success despite us having the superior squad overall in both matches if all our players are there. Don't be surprised if we are playing with 2 defensive midfielders like Matic and Fejsa in those games and to get totally owned in midfield

It would be so easy to turn around this negative atmosphere linked to the NT by bringing in Paunovic for example. We need a leader who can make a team of our best players without drama. I think people can recognize the potential and would be back to support the team as soon as that happened.

After this autumn it looks like a lot of our former youth champions have made the final step and established themselves in the best leagues (Milenkovic, Veljkovic, Grujic, Maksimovic, Sergej, Gacinovic, Zivkovic, Jovic, Mitrovic). Obviously they still have a long way to go but the start is more than promising. For example, this is a step the "84-87-generation" never managed to take.

I think some of them them still have time (Rajkovic, Gajic, Jovanovic, Babic, Zdjelar, Lukic, Pantic, Simic, Radonjic) while time are running out for some of them (Golubovic, Antonov, Meleg, Markovic).

3-4-1-2 can be used in some games, especially because Kostic looks like an ideal player at LM and it would allow us to field Jovic and Mitrovic together upfront. The problem is that I don't see an equally good RM. I would like to see Zivkovic higher up in the pitch, closer to the opponents goal. Another negative thing is that this formation limits us to play with only 2 CM's when this is the position were we have most depth atm.

Based on the player material, I think that 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-3-3 is the two formations that fit us best atm. A central midfield with Matic as DM (Fejsa, Milivojevic as back-ups) behind Sergej (Gacinovic as back-up) and Maksimovic (Grujic and Lukic as back-ups) at central midfield roles is really, really strong.

Apperantly Dusko Tosic hates Krstajic so much that he never wants to hear his name again (according to Tosic's wife).

This is another proof that Krstajic can not handle the job he has.

Yeah, she's definitely someone people should listen to.

I think it's a reliable source when it comes from a family member to a NT player. What she says confirms how much Krstajic lost the dressing room, it's way worse than I tought. Gacinovic, Milivojevic, Tosic, and Nastasic have now all confirmed that there are huge problems.

It's reliable..because it suits your agenda. She was probably on drugs as well.

No NT-coach will ever not lose the dressing room. The players also have a responsibility. Unfortunately it's never the case with Serbia.

Looks like Kokeza is pushing for a return of Milivojević and he's actually right for once. No need to like each other because what really matters in the end is the team, not individuals.

As Tadic said Serbia is too small of a country to have the luxury of leaving talented players off the team.
