Who will lead the medal table?

2008:
1. China (51 gold)
2. USA (36 gold)
3. Russia (23 gold)

2004:
1. USA (35 gold)
2. China (32 gold)
3. Russia (28 gold)

2000:
1. USA (37 gold)
2. Russia (32 gold)
3. China (28 gold)

Which country will get the most gold medals this year? It seems like that's what the rankings are based on; silver and bronze medals are just tie-breakers.

who cares anyway, it shows nothing as it is very easy to pick up medals in poorly contested events like Women's wrestling or weightlifting or dozens of different shooting dicsiplines.

This is actually the tactic host countries usually use, investing tons of money into small sports they've never cared about before hoping to boost their medals count in home olympics. UK has probably done it too.

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? USA to top it again now the judges will be fair again and not hand 10.0 to China in every sport where a judge is involved.

Think it'll be China though, the 2008 cargo train will take a while to stop, if it slows down at all. Like the Eastern Block states performed well way into the '90s.

Not bigotting

Very well said brother. Unfortunately as ridiculous as it is, I'm sure some people will still continue to think countries X, Y, and Z are superior on the basis of number of medal counts. Regardless what event its in.

China could win the lead medal table in only case of being a host as they took advantage of referee especially in gymnastic in which is the easiest to cheat.

They've actually won 3 - two in weightlifting and one in judo.

They also won a bronze, again in weightlifting.

North Korea are ranked 4th in the medal standings, above their neighbours South Korea in 6th.
