PSV in the UCL 2015/16: RO16 exit to Atlético

This thread has been long overdue for some time now...

The good news is that the first time we will play in the UCL in 7 years is nearly upon us!

We have already sold over 25 000 UCL 'season tickets' before the draw has even been made, which is a record for us, so it's safe to say that there is a hell of a lot of excitement around the club.

The board/management has set a target of reaching the RO16 but this target largely depends on the draw we get

The said draw is on at 17:45 CET this Thursday, which makes it incredibly hard for myself to follow it live

Pot 1 is as follows:

Barcelona (Spain)
Chelsea (England)
Bayern München (Germany)
Juventus (Italy)
Benfica (Portugal)
Paris Saint-Germain (France)
Zenit St. Petersburg (Russia)
PSV (Netherlands)

The other 3 pots depend largely on the final 5 qualifying results which we will find out tomorrow

Already the other pots look very challenging...

Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg in pot 4! Sevilla could be in 3

Malmo plz

so I can get to see more of

Lex Immers - Pace & power. Holland's #1 box to box player

Feyenoord forum - the place to talk about this phenomenon

I don't see us in the Champions League after Christmas, I don't agree with the statement in the comment at the start of this topic "The board/management has set a target of reaching the RO16 but this target largely depends on the draw we get", getting into the RO16 is an ambition more than a realistic target in my opinion.

Especially the way we have played in the Europa League in recent years, not good enough.

Well if you are not ambitious then what is the point of even showing up? It's the UCL - you aren't going to get an 'easy' draw or one that is not at least challenging

I'm certainly not writing us off even no matter what the draw brings. Plus, we have a major advantage being seeded in Pot 1 this season.

Until a ball has been kicked, you never know!

Looked a decent draw until Wolfsburg came out...

Some good games on the way hopefully.

I don't think CSKA are as strong as they were.

I am not saying we don't want to be in last 16 and won't try, I just don't see it being a realistic expectation. I am sure Feyenoord have the ambition to win the Eredivisie every year but when they don't it isn't a failure, if we don't get into last 16 it wouldn't be a failure either is the way I see our situation.

Staying in a European competition after Christmas is a target that if not achieved, can be considered a failure.

And @Boumavilla CSKA have won 6 from 6 in their league so far, keeping 4 clean sheets. Better than PSV's form.

Yeah, i agree with both points if you view it in terms of failure

If we don't finish 3rd though then it will be a failure in my books

Exactly my thoughts!

I badly wanted to avoid Wolfsburg from Pot 4 as they were the toughest team in there by far - similar to Monaco last season. For example, if we had drawn Dinamo Zagreb instead then everyone would have said it is a very manageable group. Still with KDB possibly going to Man City and Perisic to Inter, they may be severely weakened come Match Day 1.

CSKA isn't a bad draw though. We played Dynamo and Zenit last season so when know what it is like to play in Russia and we will have rough idea of their quality/level. Even though they are in great form, their team doesn't look as solid as Zenit's on paper.

Manchester United is a great one for the fans. Memphis, LvG and Blind all coming back to the Netherlands and a nice away trip to Old Trafford for the PSV fans. UEFA love reunions so i wasn't shocked when Man Utd came out of the hat.

Ah! They're on form but I'm still not convinced, like WR said, that their team is as strong on paper as it was maybe 4-5 years ago. In the 2013-14 season they also finished bottom of their Champions League group which contained Plzen...

You make a good point about expectations btw and Feyenoord. The club will state its their aim but after seeing the draw it could be difficult. Wolfsburg stand to lose two key players though and Dost's form was maybe just a purple patch.

Btw Basel were 6 out of 6 in the Swiss league but lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv so domestic form may be misleading when talking about European football

All the tickets for our home games have already been sold out

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg have sold KDB to Man City and Perisic to Inter Milan and have only brought in Dante from Bayern thus far iirc

Man Utd linked to Monaco talent Martial as they look to once again offload Chicharito

I have no idea is CSKA have any deadline day signings lined up but apart from Doumbia they haven't signed anyone the whole summer so i'm not expecting anything from them

Draxler is a good signing for Wolfsburg. It'll be almost impossible to replace KDB but he is by far better than their other options in attacking midfield

The EPL transfer window isnt closed yet, right?

Even so, the de Gea deal hasn't gone through and instead United have offloaded Lindegaard, Januzaj and Chicharito. What's happening with Martial?

CSKA doing nothing, as expected

EPL window is indeed still open. Villa going for Dwight Gayle - why?

Martial should still be coming. The fee for him is ridiculous.
