#18 Andrés 'Mi Amigo' Guardado

After completing his medical yesterday - he is officially a PSV player today.

The deal is a one-year loan with no option to buy. His salary + transfer fee would probably be too big for us in the long term anyway.

From the looks of things he we brought in mainly to fill the gap left by Schaars' injury i.e. an experienced player who has both defensive and attacking qualities

I for one was more in favour of a permanent solution (Borges) but it seems as though we are eventually going to move Hendrix into that CDM role. Hopefully we sign a CB and/or a LB with the remaining 5.5m seeing as Guardado cost us nothing!

He's 27, has 108 caps for Mexico (with whom he had a solid WC) and can play at least 3 positions so he is more than qualified to help us push for our first title in 6 years!

Bienvenido Andrés!

108 caps

So many Mexicans have tonnes of caps. It's like they only pick from a small pool of players.

Salcido has well over 100. Our old friend Maza Rodriguez is one cap away from his centenary cap. Giovanni dos Santos already has 80 caps.

I had a read of the Valencia thread on Guardado (like you WR) and I didn't see many good opinions of him! p

I think he'll cover the LB and CDM positions.

Andres has been named as captain of Mexico after Rafa Marquez international retirement!

I thought he did well in his debut vs Vitesse so lets see if he can keep it up

In the current line-up he has to play a defensive role. He has to do a lot of defensive work together with Gini. I hope they can control the balance. At Mexico he has a defensive midfielder behind him.

Yeah, it looks like he'll be our first choice at 6.

Thats not his natural position but for such an experienced player coming to the Eredivisie - he may just get away with it.

Guardado has said he would like to remain at PSV beyond this season.

There were rumours a week or two ago that Brands was looking at making his deal permanent.

He's been great for us so far but my only concern is that if we replace Wijnaldum with Guardado for next season then we will have too many defensive minded midfielders and not enough attacking ones.

Great tribute to Andrés yesterday

He says he has never witnessed anything like it! Hopefully that helps him sign with us permanently

Marcel Brands feels very optimistic about a deal being done with Valencia very soon.

He was in Valencia this week and here is what he had to say:

Quote:
'Het ziet er goed uit. De mensen van Valencia gaan de nu terugkoppelen met de clubeigenaar uit Singapore, maandag hoop ik te horen of we de deal rond kunnen maken. Ze beseffen dat hij destijds transfervrij naar Valencia is gekomen. Dat nemen ze mee in het bepalen van hun vraagprijs, net als de persoonlijke wens van de speler om bij PSV te kunnen blijven voetballen.'

Andres Guardado today:
Quote:
I hope Valencia sells me to PSV. At PSV I have experienced the best period of my career. I get a lot of respect from the fans and i want to live in Eindhoven and become both a champion and a better payer.

Ladies and gentlemen: i have some great news to share with you today.

Brands has announced the agreement between Valencia and PSV about Guardado.

Guardado can sign a 3-year contract. Transfer fee is 3 mil euros, according to Eindhovens Dagblad. He will sign the contract when he returns from his NT.

Good transfer.

Schaars I guess will stick around (had injury problems so he's not gonna cry), so that's the LCM position sorted for sure.

Apparently the transfer fee is €2.8m btw which is a bargain! 3 year contract is also a good length i feel.

Hopefully he can convince Corona to join us for next season

Brands has said that he is now focused on working on the Rekik and Isimat deals

Yeah, Schaars will stick around for next season.

We will have Schaars and Guardado then who can play CDM or LCM and Hendrix who also plays CDM

Maher will probably stick around as well meaning that we will have 4 midfielders secured for next season.

All we need now is to get rid of Hiljemark and Ritzmaier sign a replacement for Wijnaldum

Guardado just scored a cracking goal vs T&T in the 4-4 draw!

He also scored in the opening game vs Cuba meaning he has scored 2 goals in 3 games

Mexico play old mate Bryan Ruiz's Costa Rica in the quarter finals now on Sunday

Andrés has now scored 3 clutch penalties in 2 games for Mexico at the Gold Cup!

I admit that all penalties maybe apart from the second vs Panama were very controversial but my focus is on Guardado putting them away under immense pressure rather than if they should have been given at all

He should definitely be our penalty taker after this showing and if it were up to me, i'd put him as captain with Schaars and Luuk as VCs :hopeful:

Yeah we do need someone who can take a good penalty because Depay and De Jong were poor, he wanted to take the last one De Jong missed last season but Wijnaldum let De Jong take it...

Schaars can do this from the spot though:

It sounds like they want Mexico to win the tournament.

Yeah, it looks that way from the outside

Especially seeing as the Yanks were knocked out by the Reggae Boyz

I remember reading something that they were worried about not selling out the final if it was Jamaica-Panama Not sure how accurate that information is though
