Gini Wijnaldum

I can't believe our captain and World Cup star doesn't have his own thread! :eekani:

Gini just signed a new contract yesterday "keeping him at the club until the June 2018". Brands stated earlier this year that he expects this to be his last season but at least we will get a bigger transfer sum for him after he signed this contract

Big things are expected of him (and Maher) if he stays fit this time around!

Nice gesture by extending the contract for this long. He didn't have to do that.

Let's see if he did really develop himself. I'm a bit sceptical, but the indications are looking good.

Nice gesture indeed

To be fair he was injured for the majority of last season and he did start off well.

He somewhat unexpectedly had a good WC and a reported 11 clubs (including Atletico) were after him this summer!

I'm expecting big things from him and Maher this season.

How many midfielders do PSG need?

Aren't they happy with Matuidi, Cabaye, Thiago Motta and Veratti? with Rabiot as the talented back-up

Rabiot is on his way out apparently and Gini offers more going forward than any of their existing midfielders do as they don't really have an out and out no.10 atm with Verratti and Cabaye being more deep-lying playmakers.

Anyway, here here to stay Maybe next season PSG!

They can play Pastore as a number 10, but he's dumped on the left whenever he's allowed to play.

It has also been their system in the last few years to have 3 grafting midfielders, but yeah, it might now change, especially after their disappointing start to the season.

@ people who really think Wijnaldum is any kind of #10. He's just a dumb midfielder who can dribble. Decision making = zero, creativity = zero. The only reason Van Gaal played him was because he's a physical specimen, able to cover a lot of space on both ends. But as soon as he received the ball, you could see what Van Gaal's orders were. 'Play it safe, cause you don't have the quality, my boy.'

PSG would be the death of his career.

What do you reckon van Gaal said to other players in the Dutch squad?

Also, is Di Maria going to be his last signing at Man Utd?

I imagine Robben and RVP had maximum freedom as it showed on the pitch. Sneijder was told to drop back a little and play for the team. Nigel was given free license to kill and the wingbacks were supposed to get involved in play when risks were low. De Vrij was supposed to help the build up with BMI and Ron Beton in more limited defensive roles.

I think the De Guzman/Wijnaldum role was the most basic one in the squad tbh along with Bruno's. Later on it showed that playing Clasie would have made much more of an impact.

As for the signings, I'm quite sure it won't end here. Of course he's been missing a lot of players so far, but the team still needs a quality injection, particularly in central (defensive) midfield and defence IMO.

The world cup was fairly amusing for me.

We got to see Wijnaldum and de Guzman in other roles, but also Bentaleb.

At Spurs, Sherwood probably said "go on son, go and express yourself on the pitch" and we saw the kid run with the ball the whole time and forget to track back alm:

while under Vahid Halilhodzic, he suddenly turned into an accomplished holding midfielder who didn't just run forward blindly. I was impressed.

Feyenoord will receive 15% of any Wijnaldum fee so if we sell him for €20m then PSV will get €17 and Feyenoord get €3m

I read we have to split our share with Wijnaldum though. :rollani:

Would be a shame, cause we could use this money to sign a left back.

PS We also get an extra 3% for youth academy compensation.

Don't Sparta get the youth academy compensation?

Officially now a Geordie

The official details of the transfer will come through during the next few days but it seems that PSV will be receiving €17m of the €20m fee paid by Newcastle. In any case - we will receive a very nice sum

He was close to PSG last summer after performing well the World Cup but I feel Newcastle is more his level

He has had his ups and downs during his time at PSV but he had a great 2014/15 where he captained a dominant PSV side to our first Eredivisie title in 7 seasons and will always be remembered for that

All the best Gini!

Heh, just 600k for Feyenoord (the 3%) as we were in such financial turmoil a few years ago that we rather had 5m in one go than spread over a few years and with the 15% PSV could make in the future.

Interested to see how he does. Siem de Jong still out for long?
Wonder if he'll score many in the premiership too. 10 goals would already a great return.

First off, I still think he's a c*nt.

But this shows that his move was only about status and money, nothing more. Even after winning a title over in that village, he still calls Feyenoord his true love.

Gigi now off to Scouser land after 1 season in Geordie Shore

Liverpool paying 25 million to Newcastle and giving him a 5 year deal. PSV get a portion of that but i'm not sure exactly how much

He does fit Klopp's preferred style of play so there is hope for him to be a success there imo
