PSV in the EL 2013/14

Forget about the CL, we have the EL Draw on later today!!!

Yes thats right folks, this is the competition that Feyenoord, Utrecht, Vitesse and Twente all failed to qualify for! What a privilege it is for us then to play in it!

Excuse my sarcasm but really I stop caring about the EL ever since we started to field B sides last season.

That said its up to us, Ajax and AZ (in all probability) to keep the Dutch coefficient up (as well as our own) and also theres the chance to rotate some players and let the kids gets a bit more experience under their belts. Nonetheless the Eredivisie is still the priority.

Anyhow we are seeded in Pot 1. The list of possible opponents is to big so ill just post up who i want to get in the draw:

Wigan/Swansea from pot 2, Pacos Ferreira/Estoril from Pot 3 and Thun/St. Gallen from pot 4.

In general however i would want to avoid the Ukranian, Israeli and Russian teams + the mighty Shakhter Karagandy.

You needn't worry about that, really. We always draw all the Eastern European sides so you should be in the clear. Some French or Scandinavian stuff, maybe.

We're in Group B: Dinamo Zagreb, Chernomorets (UKR) e Ludogorets (BUL).

I think that's quite a favourable group, even though all of the clubs are from Eastern Europe where the journeys are long. Hopefully PSV give it a right good go.

Excellent group, anything different than we and the Croatians qualifying will be a surprise.

For what I saw, Chernomorets was 6th place in Ukrainian League last year, no remarkable foreign player and no recent call ups for Ukraine NT. And Ludogorets, come on, I don't expect much from a country that has Manolev among their top players.

Fans probably need to be paid though to come. Even with a B-side you should win this group.

I don't care for the Europa League as a competition but I don't like to see PSV lose/draw games against teams I have never heard of(no disrespect to those teams). I want to see PSV top their group easily and get to quarter finals (for Netherlands' co-efficient (and PSV's co-efficient as well) and just so PSV seem respectable, nobody will remember a team making it to last 32 or last 16 in the EL (not that they would remember last 8 unless they supported that team, but last 8 sounds more than twice as good as last 16 IMO)

Improving the coefficient is important to keep that second Champions League spot away from countries like Denmark, Belgium and Turkey.
Btw I thought the teams in the Europa League looked fairly weak this year.

Don't forget that boosting your own club's coefficient can be very important for future CL or EL draws. You don't want to end up in a cycle where a poor coefficient means you get tough draws which means you don't qualify for the group stages which means your coefficient stays poor etc. etc. etc.

Feyenoord are experiencing that cycle right now.

Yep, a slightly better coefficient this year and PSV should be seeded in the playoffs with much bigger chance to get a CL spot.

I think the EL is a good experience for the players aswell. It should be no problem to become first or atleast second in this group, after that better contenders will come, it's good for the players to play against big sides.

Look there are many positives of playing in the EL as have been mentioned in this thread i.e. The Dutch and Club coefficient being boosted and the youngsters getting some more experience at a European level (where the game is much different than in the Eredivisie).

As for the group is actually a very good draw.

I said i didn't want EE teams but Croatia and Bulgaria is not as bad as going to Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Israel, Turkey or Cyprus.

We did get a Ukrainian team in Chernomorets but as Amaral said they don't look nowhere near as formidable as the likes of Metalist and Dnipro, who we have faced in recent years.

And as Chivu said, even if we don't play our A side we should be able to top this group.

AZ meanwhile got PAOK, Maccabi Haifa and Shakhter Karagandy Enjoy that one, Slag

UEFA

I understand why Israel are in UEFA, as their neighbours don't necessarily want to play football with them but Kazakhstan? Come on. Its not even like those border states like Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia or Turkey ... They are definitely and Asian country!

The group stage of this thing is always a suckfest. You just gotta get through it and in the knock-out stages the fun teams come along.

You know I thought that as well, but my friend Wikipedia said there's a small part of the country (about 5%) that is west of Ural River, which is considered, along with Ural Mountains, the borderline between continents.

Anyway, if FIFA can consider Australia as Asian, anything goes.

Yeah, FIFA does what it wants pretty much.

Anyway who am i to judge. If UEFA agrees that it wants Kazakhstan or for that matter any country in its organisation then that goes.

The Thursday night part of it is most depressing, the day after the lord mayor's show.

2 Dutch players play for Ludo Sanders. Mitchell Burgerzorg and their record signing from Willem II, Virgil Misidjan.

Lex Immers - Pace & power. Holland's #1 box to box player

Feyenoord forum - the place to talk about this phenomenon
