Kevin "The Dutch Xabi Alonso" Strootman

Kevin Strootman

Date of birth: 13-02-1990(22years)
Place of birth: Rotterdam
Lenght: 1.86 m
Weight: 78

In my oppinion he is the only PSV player that really deserves an own thread, except for maybe the culthero Stanislav Manolev.
He is the true captain of the team, the motor and the player who will have the best career if I may make such a bold prediction.
His career has developed rapidly ever since beeing one the three biggest talents at Sparta in the year they relegated. AZ bought Falkenburg and Viergever and Utrecht bought Strootman. After a great game against Ajax, Kevin was called up to Oranje. He impressed Bert van Marwijk who was praising him and chose him over Theo Janssen, who at that time was the best player in the Eredivisie. A lot of people didnt understand this choice but it seems like BVM was right if you look at how Strootman has developed while Jannsen is not even 50% of the player he was last year. After a good year and international debut it was time for a bigger club and PSV stepped up at the right moment and beat other interested clubs like Fulham. He made the move, alongside Dries Mertens, to PSV for a combined fee of 13 million euros. IMO he has been the purchase of the season even though Mertens is the guy leading the goalscorers and assist charts.

Kevin Strootman's proffesional career:
2007/'08 Sparta 3 appreances, 0 goals
2008/'09 Sparta 25 appreances, 2 goals
2009/'10 Sparta 28 appreances, 2 goals
2010/'11 Sparta 16 appreances, 4 goals & FC Utrecht 14 appreances 2 goals
2011/'12 PSV 22 league appreances & 10 EL and 3 Cup appreances, 2 goals

International caps: 10, 1 goal

He started the season very well, but he hasn't been the same since his red card (Twente-PSV). He tries to do to much work for the team, while he should watch his own job more. He does have the qualities, but he just tries to hard. I hope that Labyad makes him play better. Strootman had to do all of Wijnaldum his dirty work, Labyad can take care of his own.

Yeah, we'll hes not strictly a defensive player. He is an engine and also a deep lying distributor of the ball.

The next Xabi Alonso Kevy and Jack Wilshere will be battling it out for the best player in this position in years to come.

The next Xabi Alonso? He'll have to improve his passing a whole let then. Don't get me wrong, I like Strootman but let's see him perform at top level for a whole season first before claiming that kind of ridiculous stuff.

What do you Oranje followers think does he deserve a starting spot this EC next to Van Bommel? Or would you guys rather have De Jong?

I know a lot of Dutchies want either Sneijder or Van der Vaart next to Van Bommel but with BVM that isnt going to happen so therefore this choice. I think Strootman adds much more football to the team while he handles his defensive duties while Nigel is a beast defensivly but doesnt add much offensivly.

Its a tough one. Based on pure footballing quality one would go with both Strootman and de Jong but MvB's experience to the team is just too vital.

Strangely enough i would prefer to play de Jong against the "smaller" teams while opting to play Kevin against the big boys.
