Team of Half-Season (December 2013)

Now that we are half-way through the season its time to do some reflecting.

Always interesting to see who everyone picks in their best XI.

Obviously choose any suitable formation but you can have as many players from one team as you like. Its a bit like Fantasy Eredivisie on steroids

The best XI for me thus far this season are:

Formation: 4-1-2-1-2

Marsman (Twente)

Leerdam (Vitesse) - Bengtsson (Twente) - Botteghin (Groningen) - van Aanholt (Vitesse)

Blind (Ajax)

Tadic (Twente) - Lucas Piazon (Vitesse)

Klaassen (Ajax)

Pelle (Feyenoord) - Finnbogasson (Heerenveen)

A Brazilian style 4-4-2 2 holding midfielders and 2 attacking midfielders given freedom to do whatever they want to do with wing backs steaming forward

Ruiter

Leerdam - Bengtsson - Veltman - Van Aanholt

Clasie - Blind
Piazon - Kostic

Johannsson - Finbo

VI Gillette Pro Klassement has Janmaat, BMI and de Vrij in the top 7 defenders btw

http://www.vi.nl/gpk.htm

Lex Immers - Pace & power. Holland's #1 box to box player

Feyenoord forum - the place to talk about this phenomenon

Depay - Pelle - Promes
Piazon - Klaassen
Schaars
Blind - Rekik - Veltman - Leerdam
Cillessen

To be honest i am pretty shocked to see the players in the teams we have made. Many of those players are just so average. To see this are the best players the Eredivisie has got.. it's sad.

It's not like the bigger leagues only have giants though.

Most of Liverpool's players are average (Henderson etc) but they're made to look better in recent times due to Suarez's running and danger on the ball. Spurs have calamity Dawson and the really average Chiriches at the back, bar Eriksen only have static robots in midfield and I could go on. Most of the top Eredivisie players could play in the EPL. I mean Skrtel is so bad, it's hilarious

Couldn't agree with you more there Wally!

Villa are (apart from on their day) a bunch of average players too!

Either they're average or inconsistent.

Thinking about it more, Brad Guzan and Vlaar are our only true quality players.

Velthuizen
Leerdam Veltman Bengtsson Rosales
Tadic Donald Klaassen
Piazon Finnbogason Johansson

Had to put Rosales at left back because of Leerdam on the other side.

So easy to pick forwards but not for defenders, not surprising in an attacking league.

True, but also in comparison to the Eredivisie just 3-4 years ago. Back then there still were players like Suarez, Ruiz, Afellay, Dzsudzsak, Vertonghen. Now there is nobody i think of they can easily play at Tottenham or something.

I completely forgot about Kostic alm: but i just checked it out and Tadic has better stats anyway. In answer to Afellay, i believe that Tadic is the only real 'star' left in the Eredivisie. Imo he can play for a club like Tottenham or Liverpool.

Cillesen actually has the most clean sheets iirc but he wasn't first choice at the beginning of the season thats why i left him out.

Whats with everyone picking Veltman btw? Has he been that good?

There may have been better keepers from first half of the season but the 2 or 3 times I saw Groningen, Marco Bizot looked a very good keeper, from what I saw of him anyway... What do others think of him?

Cillessen

Leerdam - Veltman - Lachman - Van Aanholt

Promes - Propper - Klaassen - Ziyech

Piazon - Finnbo

Earlier in the season perhaps some Zwolle boys could have made it. It's also what you're expecting from players (and what I watch, which is not that much. A bit more of PSV this season, because of some reason, but none of the guys were pickable).

Im a big Tadic fan but to be honest he doesnt deserve to be in the team, I'd pick Kostic over him this season. Even though Tadic has better stats, Im pretty sure that if Kostic played at Twente he would have had better stats. Guys how can you pick Klaassen in your team, he played a few games only.

Cillessen/Velthuizen
Leerdam - Lachman - Bengtsson - Blind
Propper/Ziyech - Gutierrez
Piazon
Promes - Finbogasson - Kostic

Gutierrez has been great, surprised to see you guys leave him out.

Both of my goalies are Nijmegenaren

I was going to pick Ziyech too but I thought I hadn't seen enough of him to pick him. Veltman was picked by me because he's not long made his debut for Ajax and now he's already in Netherlands contention!

Nothing special! Pretty average goalie IMO, still young though.

Jacky

Bizot can have good days but is inconsistent.

I was considering putting Jacky in there as well but i thought i'd but in a guy from Groningen instead. Jacky has been solid this season imo.

Klaassen has played 10 games in total but i chose him over Gutierrez simply because of (once again) looking at their stats

Veltman has played in 9 games but everyone is choosing him

Due to laziness

Jacky is a good alternative but he also has only had 11 starts due to be being dropped at the start of the season.
