Eredivisie's Fortune Cookies - From Lee Chun-Soo to Havenaar

There have been several articles popping up in recent times, noting how more and more German clubs have taken note of the success Dortmund had with the Kagawa signing.

See: Schalke [Uchida], Stuttgart [G Sakai, Okazaki], Nuremberg [Kiyotake], Eintracht [Inui], Hoffenheim [Usami], Fortuna [Omae], Hannover [H. Sakai], Leverkusen [Hosogai]... Hasebe arrived prior to Kagawa's arrival and there's another Japanese residing in the 2. Bundesliga for Bochum, just as Inui was - Yusuke Tasaka.

I was only wondering, then, because when Honda was playing here for VVV, he was described by some members as a 'phenomenon' by some, the impact he made. I sort of wonder why there hasn't been a similar exodus of J-League talent to the Eredivisie as Honda and a few other Japanese players have made quite an impact at Dutch clubs. I know there is a presence in the league from the J-League but nothing comparable to that which you see in Germany.

Money. Non EU players have to earn more than 300k and that's even too much for the likes of Utrecht or other midtable sides nowadays.

Most clubs barely scout outside of Scandinavia. Only Groningen and Twente really look in the smaller South American countries like Chile or Uruguay.

Even VVV have stated that they will buy less young foreigners even though it's been lucrative for them.

lol

I'll probably be proven wrong in the winterbreak though. That's when VVV usually get their exotic buys and when you get to see the strangest transfers with clubs getting desperate not to go down.

VVV need to start Yuki Otsu more often.

He made an instant impression against Vitesse, scoring a goal and then assisting his Japanese team mate Robert Cullen

To a certain age, I believe 21 or 23, non-EU players don't have to earn the 300K salary but much more less. VVV takes non-EU players, but only young ones who get a contract untill they become 23 and need to earn the big salary. That's for example the reason the club had to get rid of Uchebo last summer, they couldn't continue because he should've start to earn too much for the club.
Otsu is still just 22 while Cullen of course has got a dual nationality. Yoshida and Honda were exceptions who were sold with a big profit so it was worth it.

What we should do is get a few Chinese players in. If we can get the Eredivisie to be broadcast there, the TV money would soar. Kaching!

Sun Xiang wasn't given enough chances at PSV. He was very impressive when they eliminated Arsenal.

Feng Renliang is a promising talent who has just signed for Guangzhou.

PSV tried to buy Ji Dong-Won last year. But he choose for the bigger salary at Sunderland. These Asian players always do well in the Eredivisie, they have good discipline.

Lee Young Pyo did well at PSV, Robert Cullen and Havenaar can be considered as Japanese

Honda was recently spotted in Rome.

What do you make of his fashion sense?

What if we turn this into the 'Asians in the Eredivisie thread' or something like that?

I know he's no longer an Eredivisie player, but -

http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthrea...-of-the-season

just needs to score a bicycle kick to seal the deal

They've indeed tighten up a lot in defence.

Wonder if their manager will keep on rotating with the goalies: arthur boruc last night, then davis the other day with his blunder and also the argie.

Lex Immers - Pace & power. Holland's #1 box to box player

Feyenoord forum - the place to talk about this phenomenon

I think they thought Artur Boruc would be good for them, but because now he isn't either, Nigel Adkins has just given up and is now just rotating the 3 of them to consider who is the best of the worst
