Erik "Everyday I'm Shufflin" Pieters

Erik Pieters, Oranje's #5!

The newest edition in my "players that deserve their own threads" series. Haters gonna hate but he is no doubt the best Dutch LB atm

His main strength is his defensive work as opposed to his attacking and thats why many Dutch fans dislike him. They would rather see a Dani Alves than a Branislav Ivanovic. Having said this his attacking isnt as bad as its made out to be, hes produced brilliant passes such as the one vs Rangers in Ibrox last season and against Heerenveen a couple weeks ago

Was injured for about 4-5 months this season but will surely be the Dutch LB at the Euros. Newcastle United wanted to buy him before this season but they opted for Santon instead.

Whether he will stay with PSV after EC2012 is a question on how well he does in Poland and Ukraine but the PSV fans want him to stay, as with him and Willems we have the best LB options in the league

Really underrated player in Holland, he is not a topclass LB but still the best Dutch option.

I get the comparion with Bane, because his offensive game is also underrated allthough I think Bane's is better than Erik's.
WB it seems like we like the exact same players at PSV, except that I really like Matavz while you dont. And you really dont like Marcelo while I think he is ok.

Yeah, but thats because Bane is a much better player overall

I dont dislike Matavz but im not a massive fan on the other hand. I know hes a better player then he is showing atm as you can see in some glimpses of his play. The bottom line is that he hasnt fit into the system and that is also partly his fault. I think we'll see a different PSV side with Labyad and possibly Toivonen leaving which might give Tim more of a chance to shine.

Im not a fan of Marcelo though and i dont think i ever will be. You also like Manolev (i agree about his character but his football alm

Its not the first time hes done it. Against Rangers last season and Heerenveen a few weeks ago he gave equally as impressive passes.

His dance moves i think are a bit better than de Boer or Beckenbauer's though

Pasveer was way too slow to get off his line and stupidly ran into Mertens.

Erik Pieters has suffered an injury to his foot (again) in the match against RKC

Cocu said it dosent look good but for how long he will be out is still not know.

Strootman also left the field after about 40 minutes but i think that was because of a knock he picked up, nothing serious.

Lets wait and see how long he is out for first.

I recommend Jetro Willems though

Jetro indeed, or perhaps even van Rhijn (though I am a bit iffy on putting rightfooted players on LB).

Bring back the European Champions' Cup and Cup Winners' Cup please.

All i know is that Braafheid is drama there. Bruma, Kuiper or Schaars would be my options, Willems isn't experienced enough.

Agree with Braafheid being drama. Bruma isn´t even playing though and not a real LB to boot, Kuiper is too injury prone and I´m not really sure he can manage to attain that level, whereas Schaars is and remains a midfielder at heart; not sure if he can, or even wants to, play LB. Plus I really like Willems as a player, think him and Van Aanholt are the two best young LB´s NL has to offer. And experience is vastly overrated: if you´re good enough, you should play. How else are you going to attain experience if not by playing?

Bring back the European Champions' Cup and Cup Winners' Cup please.

Willems? might as well play Bruno there. At least will contain his man. Just don't let him cross the halfway line

Schaars I guess will be the least frightening prospect for most casual observers.

Or the possibly return of Urby

If Erik does miss the EC its going to be a real dilemma for Bert, that LB spot for sure.

Will definitely miss the last 4 games of the season.

What will happen after that is unknown. He will be set up on a fitness program and will hopefully be fit for EC. Nothing is certain though.

The question is with the amount of injuries hes had this season and the amount of football hes played, should be start in Ukraine come June in any case?

Players that have been used at LB by the Oranje in the past 2 years:

1. Edson Braafheid alm:
2. Vurnon Anita (a DM)
3. Urby Emanuelson (a LW or CM)

Best LB's in the Eredivisie:

1. Lorenzo Burnet
2. Jetro Willems
3. Patrick van Aanholt

All hugely inexperienced both in top level football, not to mention internationally.

The other option is to get one of the established players to switch positions (Khalid, vd Wiel most likely). I don't think Schaars is a realistic option. I would rather see a DF, even a CB there.

For the options you mentioned I dont Like Anita at LB, he definitly is a LB. Braafheid is warming the bench while none of the eredivisie players really have any experience. You left out the best dutch LB though in Vitesse's Butner, If there was more time I would love for BvM to test him but atm I'd go for Emanuelson.

Lets just play 3-4-3 instead instead of suggesting clowns like Urby and Willems

Come on Willems a clown? He just turned 18 and has done pretty good. He definitly has got potential. BvM will never go for a systemchange plus I wouldnt play 343 with this dutch squad.

Yeah, i agree with Krajo there.

Wally, you cruel man. Judging a 17 year old on one match he played in Rotterdam

And i thought PvA started for Vitesse. No idea that Buttner did. Shows you how much i have seen of Vitesse this season.
