Hard to tell. They all have their weaknesses and I hardly can see anyone from the current batch going to a real good club

Lex Immers - Pace & power. Holland's #1 box to box player

Feyenoord forum - the place to talk about this phenomenon

I would say Verthongen. His main qualities are on the ball though.

Douglas is crap, Bouma is even better than him.

Moreno is really good as well but i havent seen much of him lately.

De Vrij certainly has the most potential in the league.

Personally i think that Bouma (despite his age and absence from the game in the past 2 years) is better than both Marcelo and Wisgerhof. Im not sure that Marcelo is even better than Maza atm.

Jan Wuytens and Yoshida (based on his performances for Japan, not Venlo) can arguably make the list or if not are the best CB's to miss out.

Vertonghen would make it purely on the basis that he's solid and doesn't do stupid things. Same as Vlaar. Ideal for upper midtable sides in England or Germany.

  • Douglas: Good defender but hasn't really improved that much this season.
  • Vlaar: Best Dutch cb in the league?
  • Alderweireld: I've said this before, he needs to toughen up a bit. Getting tattoos alone isn't enough. He also has these lapses in concentration during the match where he loses his man for instance. But his passing range is impressive and his shooting as well. He's pacy and a good man marker. Decent to good heading ability too.
  • Vertonghen: Our best cb, has improved his defensive qualities a lot this season. One of the best defenders in the league.
  • Granqvist: Not really sure what to say about his current season. He was great last season though.
  • De Vrij: looks very promising but if Alderweireld needs to toughen up a bit, Stefan needs to toughen up a lot Also needs a calming presense like Vlaar beside him, he can't hold his own all the time in the top matches right now imo.
  • Marcelo: Not impressed at all.
  • Rajkovic: Decent I suppose. I really doubt he'll ever make that step up to top level though. Needs to spend more time at a club for starters.
  • Wisgerhof: Over the hill.
  • Moreno: Really liked him last season but can't really say he stood out this season.

Jan Wuijtens is quality. That youth player from Heerenveen looks promising too. Birger Maertens is a decent defender imo. Derijck has had a good season.

Douglas The best defender in Holland IMO. He hasn't improved much this year but still by far the best. Not the greatest build up but who really has great build up defenders expect Barca? First task should be defending. Build up should come as second.

Vlaar allong with Vertonghen battling it for second spot, allthough I'd give it to Vertonghen

Ailderwereld Im not so sold on this guy. He has concentration lapses(perhaps he will improve it in time, its a trademark of young defenders alongside bad positioning and decisionmaking. He defended Janko very bad in the winning goal he scored in the cup. Also not as good building up as Vertonghen, still solid and belongs in this top ten.

Vertonghen Like I said number two. Not so good defensivly as Douglas but better build up. Likes to take the ball into the midfield. Agressive

Granqvist Similar to Vertonghen has great runs up front like to take the ball into midfield. Solid defensivly, to bad he'll leave Groningen in the summer

De Vrij Definitly the most talented, glad he chose to sign a new contract. He will have an insurance at playing time which is essential for a young player. He stepped up his game.

Marcelo Good defensivly but awefull with the ball at his feet. He is a weaker version of Douglas in all aspects. Bouma has been better IMO than Marcelo and should deserve a spot in front of him

Rajkovic I know Im called a Rajkovic fanboy but to me the guy comes after Douglas, Vertonghen and Vlaar. He was captain of this Vitesse squad and brought stability to a really weakbackline. I think he is way underappreciated. Allthough not topclass material but definitly one of the best defenders in Holland.

Wisgerhof Strong, solid and dependable. Nothing spectacular and already 31? Good and belongs in this top ten but not the best.

Moreno To be honest I've havent watched many AZ games so I cant give my oppinion about him and dont like to recite things other have said.

1. Douglas 2. Vertonghen 3. Vlaar 4. Rajkovic

Also keep Gouweleeuw in mind, he was good against Ajax

I'm not so sold on Douglas. He is an absolute rock in the Eredivisie. I don't think there's a defender physically more imposing than him in the league but his performances in the CL left a bit to be desired. He looked a bit silly against Spurs for example.

1. Vertonghen for me
2. Douglas
3. Vlaar

It's a shame we messed up so badly against AA Gent. Otherwise it'd have been interesting to see Vlaar against international opposition. Now we're purely basing it on the Eredivisie and that shouldn't be the case for a 26 year old potential Oranje back-up.

Vlaar needs to move on if he wants to improve imo. Vertonghen on the other hand should stay for at least a year. This is his first real season where he has been consistently good.

Douglas is amongst the worst there on the ball.

His emotions get the best of him and he does some brutal body checks as well.

He really hasnt even had 1/3 of the season he had last time round therefore im not sold on him at all.

I would go:

1. Verthongen
2. Moreno
3. Vlaar

I rate Bruno Martins Indi, but he plays more at left back. Mike ter Wierik from Heracles looks pretty promising too. IMO Vertonghen is the best right now, Alderweireld is little bit over rated though...
