Dutch stadium development thread

Let's post here all the news concerning the Dutch football stadiums...

Current situation; several clubs have plans to build new stadiums or expand their current ones, here an overview. I might forget some btw...

FC Twente
Expanded their Grolsch Veste already with two second tiers, a third will follow and probably be opened before the 2011/2012 season.
Not sure if a fourth second tier will follow, perhaps later.
Current capacity: 24000
After this phase: 30000

Picture of proposed stadium if completed.

Feyenoord
Move directly to the Feyenoord board...

Heracles Almelo
Only play in the Polman Stadium since 1999, but want to move on and grow into a structural Eredivisie club. For that they need a new stadium again.
However, the municipality still didn't vote so nothing is definite yet.
Proposed capacity: 15000

VVV-Venlo
Currently playing in 'de Koel', the oldest Eredivisie stadium.
The club wants to build a new stadium next to the river Maas in Blerick, right opposite to the city centre of Venlo. It has to be a multi-functional complex which shouldn't only hold football matches, but as well 'cultural and business events'. The want a retractable roof like in Amsterdam and Arnhem. Beside just a stadium, there should be offices, a casino and more of that stuff.
The municipality still didn't decide definite so nothing is for sure yet. Although the definite project chosen will be 'Lijnstad'.
Proposed capacity: 15000, with possibilities of expansion to 25000.

Picture of proposal.

De Graafschap
Also plans in the Achterhoek to build a new stadium. However they haven't even picked a location yet...
Originally they wanted to move to Wehl, a town close to Doetinchem, but the fans blocked that. Now they're eyeing on a location in Doetinchem.

FC Utrecht
There have been very vague plans of moving to Leidsche Rijn. At this moment no option, perhaps in the future.

FC Dordrecht
After many years they finally have permission to start with the building works. A new stadium should be finished in 2013, the location is definite, next to the N3 motorway.
Proposed capacity: 6000 with possibilities of expansion to 16000.

Cambuur Leeuwarden
Two years ago plans were unveiled for building a new stadium right behind the WTX-Expo buildings. it should be finished in 2013 but I've got no clue whether this is still concrete.
Proposed capacity: 15000, with possibilities of expansion to 20000.

There are vague plans of new stadiums in Veendam, Eindhoven (for the small one), Apeldoorn and Deventer too.

Heerenveen and Groningen still have got plans for expansions, but not right now because of their financial situation.

As for the rest, there are several amateurclubs with plans for new stands etc. Will try to keep that up to date from now on.

VVV's stadium looks like the Velodrome I doubt a 15000 capacity stadium would go that high above the goal

Strange that Heracles built a new stadium with no possibility of expanding it.

As for Feyenoord, expecting nothing lol

What about upgrading the Philips Stadion in EHV? They were planning to do it even if NL/BEL didnt get the 2018 WC didnt they? I don't know whats the latest or when its going to take place.

I never hear anything about it in the press though. Capacity after the expansion would be 45 000 (similar to Anfield, just as a comparison).

Just like at de Kuip, nothing will happen in Eindhoven

Even if the roofs start leaking, nothing will happen, yet we'll be proud of our stadium and continue to buy rip-off food and drinks from Bram Ladage and co.

I can't believe so many people / especially kids buy the rip-off 3,75 mini pizza slices which you finish in 3 bites as well as the disgusting fries. If only everyone listened to me and made these catering companies go bankrupt. It's bad enough going to watch shit football but to spend money too on shit food..

As far as I know these plans are far from concrete at the moment. That's because PSV don't have the money right now, don't really get support from the municipality and the attendances are not like there's really need for an expansion...

Seriously things aren't looking good for PSV, can see them being a mediocre club playing for spot-5 for example within 10 seasons.

Disregarding current stadium limitations, what would you say is the max each club could get?

Ajax 50k
Feyenoord 40k probably even if we stay rubbish...some big buys we'll be back to 45k lol
Twente shouldn't have a problem filling 30k...40k realistic? they got a huge waiting list
PSV....I really don't know if they've got a big season ticket waiting list or not
Heerenveen....I thought they had a big waiting list too, no?
Groningen..?
AZ...40k under Schieringa probably what they're at now 18k
Utrecht...probably what they're at now..20k

Ever heard of voetballen in de kleine ruimte?

That book gives a perfect answer on this, although it's not for 100% reliable of course as there are so many factors.

Ajax and Feyenoord have fans nationwide, they'll always be the two biggest clubs of the Netherlands I think.

Then there are these 'provincieclubs' like Utrecht, Twente, Groningen, Heerenveen etc. I think PSV aren't anything different, PSV has got more history but if they keep on struggling for the next 10 years they won't be any bigger anymore instead of for example Twente if they do better.
With that I think Twente as got more potential, whole the east, while PSV has got the south. Big difference is, the south is divided into many parts, (Middle and North of) Limburg has got Roda and VVV to support, Brabant has got so many clubs who all take a small part of fans from PSV, not only the big ones but also the small ones like Helmond, Den Bosch and even amateurs like Gemert and so. In the east, Twente and Heracles are the only two...
Would put Twente on 30k max if I had to bet, they didn't even sell out always the 24k they've got now.

btw PSV by far haven't got a waiting list like Heerenveen as far as I know...

The north can be divided into the Frisian and non-Frisian part as long as Cambuur and Zwolle don't revive. So there's also a lot of potential for both clubs too.

Utrecht are too heavy into Ajax'-areas geographically. I'd say 20k is indeed the max for us.

For AZ it's comparable, most fans in that part of the province are still Ajax 'fans'. As long as AZ performs well and fight for European football the fans will come. When AZ start struggling and won't be better then mid-table for several seasons in a row I think not more than 10k will visit the stadium.

So i guess even if the Philips Stadium does eventually get upgraded to 45 000, every game wont be a sell out? Or will it be just right?

Every Eredivisie game is practically sold out in EHV and if we ever manage to get back into the CL thats a given. Its actually the EL games that are the least attended by the fans.

As you guys said though. Its crazy how many professional teams are located in Brabant. Much more than any other state. Limburg also have a few clubs that are enough to draw the fans.

Time to attract people from Zeeland i say Who do they actually mostly support btw. One of Ajax or Feyenoord?

Usually Feyenoord (proximity) but it varies wildly. There's even Groningen supporters in Zeeland.

The province only has 370k inhabitants btw, not exactly a cash piñata waiting to be whacked open.

Honestly, I can't imagine PSV are able to sell out a 45000 capacity stadium, credits to them if they prove me wrong.

Feyenoord for sure.

Also a very littly bit RBC, but not after this season anymore I think. Also a littly bit NAC I believe.

Forgot to mention the Southernmost part (Zeeuws-Vlaanderen) has a great deal of Club and Gent supporters.

So it seems like theres no PSV fans in Zeeland from what you guys have said

Time to start recruiting Belgians to come and watch our games. PSV > Club Bruuge

As i said im sure that 45 000 will get sold out if its a good game in the Eredivisie or just any game in the CL but whats the point of your stadium missing 10 000 people every second game? PSV's average attendance each year is around 33 500 people and i bet theres people on the waiting list so i guess closer to 40 000 would be a smarter option if an expansion does happen.

Opposite to Zeeland PSV has got a fanbase in Belgium, especially the Lommel area.

Point is the distance between PSV and clubs like Twente, Groningen etc is getting smaller every season. If this continues, which is likely as PSV haven't got any money and a poor youth academy, they won't be the best of the country anymore every season so less people want to affiniate themself with a club from the province without more than average success like PSV could be.
With that, even PSV fans agree the club plays the most boring football at home. I know PSV fans who haven't got a season ticket because of that.

Jordania said he wanted to add a second ring to the Gelredome, I dunno why he wants to though, the stadium always looks half empty most of the time...
