ECQ: Poland - Finalnd; Poland - Serbia

Leo's Poland is facing its first true exam in two weeks. UEFA Euro 2008 qualifiers are around the corner.

Poland - Finland, 2 September, Bydgoszcz
Poland - Serbia, 6 September, Warsaw

Poland squad

Goalkeepers
Jerzy Dudek (Liverpool FC), Wojciech Kowalewski (Spartak Moscow), Artur Boruc (Celtic Glasgow)

Defenders
Michal Zewlakow (Olympiakos Pireus), Mariusz Jop (FK Moscow), Jacek Bak (Al-Ryyan), Pawel Golanski (Korona Kielce), Arkadiusz Glowacki (Wisla Krakow), Marcin Wasilewski (Lech Poznan)

Midfielders
Radoslaw Sobolewski (Wisla Krakow), Mariusz Lewandowski (Shakhtar Donestk), Miroslaw Szymkowiak (Trabzonspor), Arkadiusz Radomski (FK Austria Vienna), Sebastian Mila (FK Austria Vienna), Euzebiusz Smolarek (Borussia Dortmund), Jacek Krzynowek (VfL Wolfsburg), Jakub Blaszczykowski (Wisla Krakow), Lukasz Gargula (GKS Belchatow)

Strikers
Tomasz Frankowski (Wolverhampton Wanderers FC), Maciej Zurawski (Celtic Glasgow), Ireneusz Jelen (AJ Auxerre), Radoslaw Matusiak (GKS Belchatow)

Looks good. I'd prefer Giza over Mila and maybe Rasiak over Frankowski, but apart from that I agree with Leo's choice. I'm happy for Glowacki, who's done really well in the league since his return.

This may be off topic but have any Polish people here heard of Macej Nalepa?

Sure. If I remember well, he's even won one cap for Poland. There were some rumours linking him with Arsenal London, when he was in his prime. What's happening to him now?

Ah ok...Just because, now he's at my favourite club, FC Karpaty Lviv....He was a 3rd GK for a while but recently he's been making a push to get into the first team..I definetely think he should be in the first team...He's started a few matches as of late .

the only players there id watch out carefully is Žigić , maybe Igor Duljaj, Vidić wont play.
Poland gota win against Finland. And at least tie Serbia(pleeease ) We can only beat them if some of their players messes up bad like last time we played a friendly in Ukraine.

I think that if we want to make it to EURO, six points is a must. But it won't be easy against Finland, and the potential of Serbia's team is far greater than ours.

Still we need a confident start, especially that we play at home twice. I expect nothing but two victories.

Artur Boruc has a slight injury and was repalced by Wisła's goalkeeper Mariusz Pawełek. I like calling up players like Matusiak or Garguła, they are in form plus THEY PLAY REGULLARY in first 11 ... like "Piłka Nożna" said, it's better for players of the NT to play regullary in Bełchatów then to sit on the bench in Liverpool. I wouldn't like to see Frankowski on the playground, he's too weak now and it'll take time to rebuild his form in Tenerife. I'm also not sure if calling Błaszczykowski was a good turn - I doubt if he can be a starter instead of Smolarek or eventually Jelen (if Jeleń will play on the wing) and if he won't, he'll be waisted cos our U-21 NT needs him much more against Portugal in Porto.

Cementarnica in Vtora Liga 2009/2010
Cementarnica - Miravci 2:0 (Kostadinovski 40'-pen. Naumcevski 43')
Belasica - Cementarnica 1:2 (Markov 24' - Donev 9'-og Trajkovski 47')
Cementarnica - 11 Oktomvri 2:1 (Jakovlevski 15' 77' - Kostadinovski 26'-og)
Cementarnica - Belasica 4:1 (Braga 23' 38' Ristovski 43' Kostadinovski 63' - Jurcevski 88')

What would be your starting eleven against Finland?

I can't think of any surprises, so mine would be:

Dudek - Zewlakow, Bak, Lewandowski, Golanski - Krzynowek, Kazmierczak, Szymkowiak, Smolarek - Zurawski, Frankowski

I would add only small changes:

Dudek - Zewlakow, Bak, Lewandowski, Golanski - Krzynowek, Kazmierczak, Szymkowiak, Jelen - Zurawski, Matusiak

All the best Poland, a win against Finland has got to be considered a must ahead of the tougher looking fixture with Serbia in midweek.

Let's hope for a positive start under the new coach.

I really dont feel comfortabe with the strikeforce called up (tbh though I don't see many other alternatives). Hopefully Frankowski can show some of the form of last year or Matusiak really impresses. Ideally we would have faced easier opponents in our first two games so that Leo coud have time to adjust, but you must play the cards you are dealt. My Prediction for the game against Finland; a close 2-1 win for us.

Keep faith

Although I honestly think it was the worst Poland's game I've seen for years.

Poland - Finland 1:3 (0:0)

Goals: 90' Gargula - 54', 76' (pk) Litmanen, 85' Vayrynen
Red card: 75' Glowacki

Poland: Dudek - Wasilewski, Glowacki, Bak, Zewlakow - Blaszczykowski (46' Jelen), Szymkowiak (46' Smolarek), Radomski, Krzynowek - Zurawski, Frankowski (74' Gargula).

I can see from the faces of our core "11" that they kinda got used to being pathetic and they're not even ashamed.
