WC: Poland - Ecuador

9.06.2006 21:00

Poland - Ecuador

A crucial game for both teams. German side seem to be out of reach, Costa Rica don't look like a contender for the 2nd spot.

I'm beginning to think that Janas will play 4-5-1 against Ecuador, which means we're going to defend and wait for counter attacks.

I don't like that concept very much. Basing my opinion on what I saw in friendlies, I'd rather press Ecuador on their half and attack them. But I'm not a NT coach and for our own sake I hope Janas knows what he's doing.

If we dont win it Ill be depressed for a very long time.

I dont know which tactic Janas will use but so far in friendlies when we pressed teams, we lost so maybe counter attack isnt that bad idea.

I think Smolarek and Krzynowek may be our best performers because they play in Germany and feel like "at home" there.

I hope support will be good.

Im already very scared .

I'm not scared, I'm excited

It's true that open football that we played against Colombia didn't pay off at all. Well, we must wait and see.

With that Japanese ref, I bet Jop and Sobolewski will be shown yellow cards after no more than 30 minutes

In my opinion possession and presing will be key to win. We have mental advantage over Equador and we must use it. 4-5-1 will be good on Germany but no s. america team. I wish we play very agresive and high with defence catching Equador strikers on offside. I'm also excited but the forthcoming exams are killing me.

Last test game won 12-0 against some German amateur team, but what matters is that we played 4-5-1 again.

Good luck to all those taking exams

Hey, don't you think it might be better to have a separate thread for each WC match?

Anyway, right, it's Ecuador game for a good start. I'm rather suspicious about this new 4-5-1 formation. To be honest, I was absolutely sure that we wouldn't use it against Ecuador and Costa Rica and it's simply Janas' secret weapon for Germany. Now it seems he really considers playing with only one striker during the World Cup, which is a strange idea in my opinion, but alright, let's see what will happen. Que sera sera

The 4-5-1 is a system i actually like, and thought that Poland looked a lot more secure using it against Croatia rather than the 4-4-2 from the disaster before against Colombia.

It's not a well-kept secret that defence is the weakest part of your team, so the best way to counter that is to have a system that is difficult for opponents to create chances against. It's also more likely to evolve into an attacking 4-3-3 when Poland are in possession.

I've found the perfect place to watch the game on Friday as well, a Polish social club in Glasgow, so hopefully there will be plenty of celebration on the night.

Come on the Poles!!

I can't believe we have a neutral supporting our team. Italy, Brazil.. they have tons of support outside their nations, but at least now we have one.

Yes, but not this weekend. They're playing Henke's team.

You'll find that from the moment Celtic snapped up Magic and King Artur last summer that our supporters would form a natural affinity with Poland anyway, which already existed to a certain extent from Dziekanowski and Wdowczyk playing well in the Hoops a decade earlier.

Plus the fact that quite a number of Poles appeared on our forum last year to provide video clips and lots of helpful info on Zurawski in particular when we were linked with him means that it's only right i adopt you as my WC team.

Have to agree, I'd be surprised if there are Celtic fans who won't be looking out for your results, Boruc although a little prone to mistakes still seems good to a Celtic support who've been looking at absolute crap in goals for years now, he's confident which is a good thing, he has all the skills a goalkeeper needs to be top class, it's just his concentration. And Zurawski... Well, he's done fantastically, one of very few players in our current squad I won't worry about in the Champions' League, and that I can say that with confidence after only one season shows his class.

Well tonight's the night, 21:00 CET. We face a team that qualified alongside Brazil and Argentina, above Chile and Uruguay. Would we beat Uruguay?

La Juve? Lasciamo perdere.
