WCQ 2006: Poland - Azerbaijan

This match will be playd in 26 March. The beginning at 18.00

Hopefuly we will take 3 points and we must wait for bad match of England, first opportunity will be on 26 March England - Northern Ireland.

But Azerbaijan is a good team, I watched their matches with Northern Ireland and Austria, they playd good, and Sadiquov's freekick with Wales was stunning.

Thanks for compliments Poland-Cement)

Our best keeper Dmitriy Kramarenko returned to NT But our best defender Rashad Sadyghov will miss the game, because of excess of yellow cards.

Foreign based players called up

Our foreign contingent for the Azerbaijan and N.Ireland WC qualifying games to be played 3/26 and 3/30:

Goalkeeper: Jerzy Dudek (Liverpool FC).

Defense: Tomasz Rząsa (SC Heerenveen), Tomasz Hajto (FC Nuernberg), Jacek Bąk (RC Lens), Bartosz Bosacki (FC Nuernberg), Dariusz Żuraw (Hannover 96).

Midfield: Kamil Kosowski (FC Kaiserslautern), Jacek Krzynówek (Bayer Leverkusen), Radosław Kałużny (SC Rot-Weiss Essen), Sebastian Mila (Austria Wieden, Arkadiusz Radomski (SC Heerenveen), Euzebiusz Smolarek (Borussia Dortmund), Mirosław Szymkowiak (Trabzonspor).

Strikers: Grzegorz Rasiak (Derby County), Andrzej Niedzielan (NEC Nijmegen).

Poland based players to be added on Thurdsay.

Can anyone explain to me why Niedzielan got the call? From what I heard his days at NEC are numbered. And good to see Smolarek in there.

European Championships here we come!

Dzien dobry, polish przyjaciel-s

I hope your team will underestimate us, so we can pull a fast one on you like we did against Serbia in the last qualifications

But anyway, good luck guys! I hope we all will enjoy the game

Poland based players:

GK: Artur Boruc (1980, Legia Warszawa, 5A), Marcin Cabaj (1980, Cracovia, 0A).

DEF: Marcin Baszczynski (1977, Wisla Krakow, 16A), Arkadiusz Glowacki
(1979, Wisla Krakow, 16A), Tomasz Klos (1973, Wisla Krakow, 57A-4
gole).

MID: Bartosz Karwan (1976, Legia Warszawa, 20A-4 gole), Tomasz Kielbowicz (1976, Legia Warszawa, 5A), Piotr Giza (1980, Cracovia, 0A).

FOR: Tomasz Frankowski (1974, Wisla Krakow, 8A-3 gole), Maciej Zurawski (1976, Wisla Krakow, 38A-10 goli), Marek Saganowski (1978, Legia Warszawa, 13A).

I guess our starting line-up will be like this:

------------------ Dudek ------------------

-- Baszczynski -- Bak -- Glowacki -- Rzasa --

------------------ Kaluzny ----------------

-- Smolarek --- Szymkowiak --- Krzynowek --

---------- Zurawski --- Frankowski ----------

The problem is that Bak and Hajto are not playing football at the moment. Glowacki got a knock against Polonia on Sunday, Zuraw and Bosacki don't seem reliable enough.

Another point to consider is right winger position. Kosowski is being given hardly any playing time, Smolarek is playing as a forward more than a midfielder and Karwan doesn't seem to have enough energy for 90 minutes.

As for strikers, I think Rasiak will replace Frankowski in the 2nd half. Hopefully only to finish the job.

Two victories is a must.

Prewitt, as to Rasiak he is good in league in England but not in NT. His last goal was against Lithuania (3-1 Poland).
I don´t know why is he doing so bad in NT

Cementowa Glowa I agree with Prewitt that Rasiak may get to start or at least play significant minutes against N.I.. especially if Poland gets 3 easy points against the Azeris. If he scores once or even twice, he'll break open, and will give us another good option at the striker position. Hell, Janas may even at some point play Rasiak and Frankowski up front with Zurawski just behind them. In fact, I'd like to see that setup for the N.I. game, but I understand that qualifiers are not the right time to experiment.

European Championships here we come!

Burkhardt brothers (midfielders), Brozek twins (winger and striker) and, imo, Dariusz Dudka (LB). They all play in the Polish League.
