Option No. 1: Germany qualifies, Portugal qualifies

Germany and Portugal are first and second respectively in the group standings, so this theoretically should be the most likely outcome to occur. Yet as we've discussed, literally anything can happen in this group.

Any points from Germany would ensure them qualification to the next round, so a win or a draw against Denmark is enough for them to be guaranteed first place. Portugal, then, are dependent on the Germany match for their qualification—needing them to win or draw against Denmark. A draw means that Portugal must beat Holland; a win means that they need only a draw to qualify second.

---

Option No. 2: Germany qualifies, Denmark qualifies

The first way in which this could happen is if Germany and Denmark have a draw, and Netherlands beat Portugal. This would place Germany on seven points, Denmark on four and Portugal on three—giving both sides qualification to the quarterfinals.

Denmark could also beat Germany, which would place both teams on six points—meaning that the two sides need a draw or a loss from Portugal to ensure their qualification.

---

Option No. 3: Germany qualifies, Holland qualifies

Sitting last in the group without a single point, Holland can still qualify for the next round of competition, but they will need some results to fall their way.

Holland must beat Portugal first, and they must do it by at least two goals. That would take them to three points overall and an even goal difference. Germany must then beat Denmark, which would leave the Danes on three points, but more importantly, a negative goal difference. Holland would then beat Portugal in their head-to-head encounter, seeing that the two sides have the same points and goal difference.

There is still some hope for Holland.

---

Option No. 4: Denmark qualifies, Portugal qualifies

There is also the chance that Germany could be eliminated from the tournament despite not dropping a point in their opening two games. If Denmark can manage to beat the Germans and Portugal can give Holland their third loss of the tournament, then Germany could possibly be eliminated.

Should that scenario happen, all three teams (Germany, Denmark, Holland) would find themselves on six competition points—meaning that goal difference comes in to the equation.

If Denmark beat Germany by two goals and Portugal beat the Netherlands by a single goal, then the current group leaders would be eliminated on goal difference. Denmark would qualify first with six points and a plus-two goal difference, Portugal second with six points and a plus-one goal difference and Germany would be eliminated with six points and an even goal difference.

Now that truly would be chaotic times.

What is the expected Dutch lineup? They really changed it up at half-time against Germany, so not sure what to expect tomorrow.

Portugal will go with the usual:

Rui Patricio

Joao Pereira - Pepe - Bruno Alves - Fabio Coentrao

Miguel Veloso
Raul Meireles - Joao Moutinho

Nani - Postiga - Cristiano

A more user friendly version...

Group B: Sunday
Denmark (3) v Germany (6), Portugal (3) v Netherlands (0)

• Germany are not quite through, but will be as group winners if they draw. They will be knocked out, though, if they lose to Denmark by any result other than a one-goal defeat in which Germany score at least two AND Portugal win.

• Denmark will progress with any win. A draw will only be good enough if Portugal lose. If Denmark lose they are out.

• Portugal will be through with victory unless Denmark win by a one-goal margin (other than 2-1 and 1-0). They will progress with a draw unless Denmark win. Portugal will also be through if they lose by a one-goal margin and Denmark are also beaten.

• The Netherlands must win by a two-goal margin and hope Denmark also lose.

Holland has a chance at 2-0 if they bench RVP, MVB and Robben, and replace them with Hunter, VdV, and Kuyt. Robben and RVP can be used later as impact subs in the second half, but they should not start.

Easy win for Holland of course!

If Germany does their job as well we'll go through.

Probably what that imbecile will do..,

Holland to win by one goal and go out...

Marwijk cant take the pressure well, cant see Holland winning this now, i think Portugal will nick it. I think Marwijk has lost the dressing room now.

Holland would win but it'll be hard for them to win by two clear goals.

Holland back four is utterly atrocious, not a chance in hell Holland beat Portugal.

Holland was a much better team in terms of collective union and tactics then.
I'm really sorry to be the one giving you the news but things are very far from being "easy" for you at the moment. :dielaugh:

Forgot world cup 2002 qualification as well.

And you also forgot to mention that this Portugal squad, especially in the middle of the park, is a zero compared to those two amazing teams(the one directly out of euro 2000, and euro 2004/world cup 2006 core)

Veloso's defensive frailties will come to the forefront here, Sneijder and VDV will have a lot of joy in driving the ball through the spaces betwen the midfield/defense. Robben will unleashed 1 v 1 against Joao Periera, Van Persie and his quick feet trying to drive at Bruno Alves...Pepe will be overwhelmed, he can't be everywhere at once.

Holland will lay siege to Portugals half and Ronaldo/Nani won't see the ball much.

The amount of space Portugal gave to Denmark would be catastrophic to offer to Holland tomorrow..

I think it'll have to be more like the Germany game...and once more it might be crosses towards Joao Periera's area that might be Portugals undoing if the Dutch go with two strikers and Huntelaar starts.

Got a feeling Holland will show up to play, hard. Ronaldo will need a massive performance.

Robben will clearly be up against Coentrao and it will be Afellay/Kuyt against Pereira.

Holland will likely play with one striker so I don't see why Pepe can't be there to settle the danger that comes in.

Don't see why Ronaldo/Nani wouldn't get much of the ball because Holland will dominate. You don't know that, there's about 16/17 hours before the game. Besides those two players could definetly punish Holland's backline, it's probably the two worst fullbacks they've come up against so far.

Yes, the space Portugal gave Denmark was big but they needed to open up because they had to win the game and they did. They don't have to win this one though because a draw might be good enough, provided the Germans don't allow a big slipup against Denmark. They don't have to open up this time. Plus you seem to forget that Denmark allowed Holland alot of space but yet they didn't concede any goals there while they conceded 3 to Portugal.
I thought Holland would be going with

----------------Stekelenborg------------------------
----------------Usual back four---------------------
---------De Jong------------Sneijder----------------
Van Persie--------VDV------------------------Robben
------------------Huntelaar--------------------------

Just going for it to get the 2 goal advantage.

If they play that lineup, Portugal will definetly find ways to create chances.
I honestly think they'll go with something like that, sneijder posting as the deeplaying playmaker and Van Persie tucking inside on their right.

It seems like the last desperate card their manager has to play.
