Will Spain defend their Euro title?

Okay I am going spam this forum now

Spain still is the most dangerous side in the NT football as they can squeeze lif out of the opponent with their miserly game.
Though lately they have seen some weakness especially defense with Puyol getting old, Pique out of form, Ramos has improved his game at CB but still is prone brain farts and than their is no one to worthy of world class tag at leftback.
Midfield is still the best in the world although attack has lost its hero David Villa but the heirs like Soldado and Llorente are on fire.
Their midfield's ability to squeeze the life out of opponent can still win them games like they did in the WC.
What are your views on it?

Considering the form of some of their players at the moment, I could see them going out early even perhaps.

Most of the Spanish players have had very long seasons (likely winning even more silverware, I see them tired and now to add to this out of form.)

Villa, Torres, Silva, Puyol, Piqué, and perhaps even Xavi in some sense are all either out of form or on old, exhausted legs at this point. Fabregas has been sitting on the bench and playing on the perferial of this Barca team. Pedro has been shown to be just another pretty good player, nothing more.

Question is how well they can keep to their style which is so difficult for teams to play against.

Overall though I don't even expect them to make the final. I can see them going out against any of the Portugese, Germans, or Dutch in the semis, and perhaps even France or England (:undecide could pull off a tight (maybe penalties) win against them as well.

my bet still goes to someone out of group B. Most likely the Dutch or Germans.

Would be pretty incredible if they do manage to retain the trophy though. Would really be known as the decade of Spanish and Barcelona domination.

I support a corporation in Northern London.

You laid it out well. They have as good a chance as any and I see no reason why they would not be favorites considering what they have achieved already.

Do you even glory hunt?

IMO they are favourite to win the tournaments and most of the biggest teams (or better saying traditional teams also had players playing many games).
They aren`t unbeatable and you don`t need to be a super team to do so (remember that they lost to Switzerland in their opener in the last World Cup). Their advantage is that they have a base which is Barcelona, so the coach doesn`t need to take too much time in preparing the team tacticallly, but only adjusting it. With additions of players like Silva, Llorente, Casillas, Ramos they become even stronger.

In the moment they only two teams that I see beating them are Germany and Holland. But they fell in a complicated group and one of them could even leave early the competition.

France and England I would rate in a lower scale. Too bad that always a few months before a big tournament a turmoil happens in England. Capello left, Roonery will be able to play only the last match of the the first phase (The English FA had good politics on that one) and we know there are some player who don`t get along with eachother. So England will have Pearce commanding a team that until recently playing a Capello style and will play the traditional English one with all these problems.
Maybe it is an opportunity to take the pressure out of them and surprise.

They're a perfect tournament team with their commitment to their specific style. Three tournaments in a row has never been done before though and I think their lack of killer instinct and questionable back line will be the end of them finally.

I agree with Dima, but they usually turn it on when it matters. But if Netherlands, Germany or even France don't shit their pants they can beat them in a one-off game

They will go far, but won`t win it IMO.

There are in theory the team to beat where everyone will play their best.

Do you guys think that assuming the base of the team is from Barcelona this will affect them in psicological terms? What do I mean is that they lost two major tournaments saw Real Madrid take the title in style and beat them at Camp Nou, while Guardiola leaves. Also, internal disputes between the players from the different clubs could be a factor.

Possibly.

These internal "disputes" have been refered to many times in the past and most cases the relevance of them on the team is over exaggerated.

Ze Germans will win it anyhow.

I also voted for it. They have a solid team, but sometimes underestimating powerhouses like Italy is a mistake.

But Spain certainly will have this questionmark on them. we could get as an example the World Cup. No one remembers that they lost to Switzerland in their debut, but ended up being world champions.

If these internal affairs don`t disturb then definitely they could defend their title, but I see other teams like Germany and Holland stong for the competition.

Do you guys think no darkhorse could appear on this one? I mean, we had examples of Denmark and Greece in previous editions and the Czech for example reaching the final in 1996.
Don`t know, but Denmark could surprise in the "group of death" while the winner of group A could be in a good position for surprising.

If Villa makes it regardless of his match-fitness, Spain's chances are naturally boosted. Iniesta is also finishing the season strongly and he's vital for Spain, always steps it up a notch.
IMO, Spain are still the favourites.
