The UEFA Euro 2012 Play-Offs

I thought since it's getting closer and closer to the play-offs, we could use a thread to discuss them. It seems Bosnia will make it () along with Ireland, Sweden, Greece/Croatia, and the Czechs. Here's the current table of second-placed teams (first place gets a direct birth to Euro 2012/games versus 6th-placed team in group doesn't count):

Place - Team - Played - Wins - Draws - Losses - Points

1) DENMARK - 6 - 4 - 1 - 1 - 13
----------------------------------------
2) BOSNIA AND HERZ. - 7 - 4 - 1 - 2 - 13
3) SWEDEN - 6 - 4 - 0 - 2 - 12
4) REP. OF IRELAND - 7 - 3 - 3 - 1 - 12
5) GREECE - 6 - 3 - 3 - 0 - 12
6) MONTENEGRO - 6 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 11
7) CZECH REP. - 6 - 3 - 1 - 2 - 10
8) TURKEY - 6 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 8
9) SERBIA - 6 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 8

to me the runners up of Group H (Denmark/Norway), Group D (BiH), Group E (Sweden/Hungary), Group F (Greece/Croatia) are the candidates for the best runner-up. Don't think CG will win their remaning two games and don't see the Czechs beating Spain

No one is certain of a playoff spot right now, except maybe BiH and Turkey (seems likely).

Tough to talk about it now with a big final month of qualifiers ahead.

With that said, when is the playoff draw?

I'd like for Bosnia to draw Greece (if they do make it to the play-offs), because if you saw the friendly, we can compete with and dominate against the Greek. Other than that, drawing Crna Gora would be good, but I'd hate too get matched up with Sweden or Denmark/Norway.

One thing I don't like about the rankings system is that teams from a group with only 5 teams have an advantage because all their results count because they don't have a sixth-placed team.

We can beat Montenegro and Greece, but the former have Jovetic and Vucinic who would cause nightmares for our defence and their own backline is very solid and tough to break down. The latter plays defensive football and are good at playing knockout games like they showed in the WC2010 playoffs.

Yes, at present the world cup in Qatar looks like being tough also. Anyone could win it also. :rollani:

And yet you didint score or win, while we had a clear goal wrongly called offside.

If Greece finish second and were to draw Bosnia we would eliminated them. Its the same story every year. We get drawn with some upstart eastern european country, whose fans proceed to underrate Greece, and then are promptly eliminate by said 'inferior Greek team.'

We played a B-team that game. Don't tell me we couldn't of easily defeated you with the number of chances we had that game.

We played players like Zahirovic (unproven at the time), Stilic (very young, he could work on some things), we missed Sasa Papac, and stuff like this.

Bosnia should have that game 3-0 but didn't due to poor finishing and a great greek goalkeeper, end of the story. As for who makes the play-offs, it's too early to talk about that.

Just to let you guys know, the date of the Play-Off draw is October 13th. The date for the games, however, are on November 11/12 and November 15. Bpth are this year, of course.

As it stands right now, there are 25 potential second-place teams. Here are there current coefficients which will be used for the playoff draw. The team that has the highest second-place finish in DIVISION play (not coefficients) will automatically advance to the Euro 2012. Of course, the numbers will change next week so the final rankings will be slightly different. I'm expecting England and France to win their respective divisions while Russia and Portugal are slim favorites to win theirs.

1 England 34,320
2 Croatia 33,478
3 Russia 32,401
4 Portugal 31,910
5 Greece 31,825
6 Sweden 31,125
7 France 30,588
8 Denmark 30,313
9 Serbia 29,005
10Czech Republic 28,148
11 Slovakia 28,045
12 Turkey 27,836
13 Switzerland 27,595
14 Republic of Ireland 27,268
15 Bosnia and Herzegovina 27,111
16 Hungary 26,528
17 Norway 26,475
18 Romania 25,388
19 Slovenia 24,918
20 Scotland 24,285
21 Northern Ireland 23,939
22 Montenegro 23,626
23 Belgium 22,544
24 Armenia 19,956
25 Estonia 19,712

I'd love it if we drew Greece. Quit being such a cockadopoulos, your NT is no better than ours.

I think we should wait till the Bosnia-Greece legs of the WCQs and those two legs will answer all questions about this match-up .

Bosnia will use its talented and aggressive attackers against Greece's thick defensive wall. Should be two entertaining legs.

Historically this means Greece will win.
