kinda late but oh well. ive always liked him since he joined roma back in the winning year for us. followed him since then. supposedly he has a bad attitude and doesnt really have the passion to play football. non the less he was great technically and showed in the world cup his precise passing. sad to see him go. best of luck to him ( and his soon return ).

So he has actually retired? That's terrible.

I heard rumours that he plans to study a business degree (or master degree?) in the USA....

Yeah, I love the guy as a footballer as he really was talented. He definitely lost his passion though a long time ago.

Sad to see one of the great asian players off all time retire. He was the first japanese in the serie A and in my view a very classy player.

The first japanese in the serie A was Kazuyoshi Miura, who played for Genoa in season 94/95 under a sponsorship of a japanese enterprise. He scored only one goal in the whole season, but you couldn't expect that it was in the derby match vs Sampdoria.

It is strange and kind a sad a 29 year old with such talent retires at that early age
But I wish him all the best in the rest of his life

Yeah, his heart clearly wasn't in it for the last 3-4 years imo.

He's quite possibly one of the richest footballers ever, he just couldn't be arsed. Which is understandable because he grew up in a culture where football would have been nowhere near as passionate as it would be now in japan.
