Teams: Argentina, Lazio, Fiorentina
It's much darker now, Loco. For a while at least, until the Clairol box runs out.
Svetlana Khorkina has retired.
I believe it is the intention of the Chinese team to build up so many points on the uneven bars that they can coast through the rest of the team competition. There has been a controversy over the ages of at least two of the gymnasts, who appear to possibly be 13 years old. Won't be the first time it has happened. One of my favorite Romanians, Daniela Silivas, admitted years ago that her birth certificate was altered so she could compete early.
The US should win team gold and invidual all around (Shawn Johnson) if nothing unusual happens, like a major commie plot or something.
I haven't been following it as closely as I used to. There's so much emphasis on power tumbling now rather than dance. I haven't seen an outstanding dancer since Svetlana Boguinskaya. And that was a long time ago. Look at the American girls, they all have thighs like a weightlifters. They can't dance with those things. That's all done to get enough power to get around on the double layouts that seem to be required now.
But tomorrow is new day and new chance. -- Alija
