Israeli teams in European Competitions

Maccabi Tel Aviv was drawn to play the winner between Santa Coloma (the same team that surprised Maccabi in the first leg back in 2007) and Banants from Armenia.

Wow, there is a chance they might all play Armenian teams.

Decent draws all around with Maccabi getting the least threatening draw out of Israeli teams based on who they could have faced. There is no way Maccabi will ever lose to either Santa Coloma or Banants, regardless of that awful Maccabi team we saw 7 years ago.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will have once again in their path Santa Coloma from Andorra in European competition.

Hapoel Tel Aviv will play Astana from Kazakhstan while Beer Sheva is set to play RNK Split from Croatia. It ended up that we won't play any Armenian teams

Due to the current situation in Israel both Maccabi and Hapoel managed to switch their venues with their opponents, playing the first leg away in order to gain time if eventually the situation improves. Uefa is still waiting to pronoune itself on the subject.

They also managed to switch. They play in Croatia first.

Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Santa Coloma 1-0 with a Rade Prica goal at the second half. It doesn´t look so good but it is just the first official game of the season. Certainly with time they will get better.
The starting lineup is the same from last season and almost did not change since Oscar´s first spell at the club. This could be very important.

Uefa has just announced that all Israeli teams will not be able to host their return match in the country even in an eventual ceasefire in the next days.

In case of the teams advancing than the situation will be analysed once again.

The most likely venue will be Cyprus.

Hapoel lost their first game in Kazakhstan 3-0. I'm not surprised. Especially with all the distractions there are right now.

Hapoel Tel Aviv is a real balagan right now and the bad results were expected. They have Assi Domb as coach who still doesn´t have the experience despite knowing the club very well and Berkovic as the general manager that on his first week at office had problems with the board (nothing new)

Now they will most likely fail big and unless a miracle happens they are out of Europe once more and with that being said, no income, no coefficient points for future competitions which won´t make them confortably ranked as they are right now.

Meanwhile Hapoel Beer Sheva are beating RNK Spilt in Croatia 1-0 with a Maor Buzaglo goal.

Today Uefa held the draw of it the third qualifying round of the Champions League and Europa League.

Kiryat Shmona being cup winners were automatically qualified for this round. In the other cases considering all Israeli teams qualify to the next round here are the possible opponents:

Champions League:

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Zrinjski (BIH) or Maribor (SVN)

Europa League:

Hapoel Beer Sheva Vs Chernomorets Odessa (UKR)

Hapoel Tel Aviv Vs Linfield (NIR) or AIK Solna (SWE)

Ironi Kiryat Shmona Vs Dinamo Moskva (RUS)

According to Uefa website Israeli teams are officially not allowed to host in the country any European competition until further notice.

In Ukraine´s case, Uefa has permitted Chernomorets Odessa to host in the country, this concerns Israelis since Beer Sheva could face them in the next round if they pass through Split.

Uefa has also announced that Russian clubs cannot play Ukrainian clubs until further notice.

Lousy 2-0 victory for Maccabi in Cyprus today. There wasn’t much encouragement to take from the game, as Maccabi admittedly played poorly. They had a few shots on target and the referee gifted them a questionable penalty. Hopefully they’ll pull it together next round.

Of course we expect much more from Maccabi Tel Aviv especially against Santa Coloma with all the respect.

But we should also consider these two games were the first official games by Maccabi in the season. There is still time to improve and they will improve in the next round.
Also we played in Cyprus our "home" match. It is not the same especially when Maccabi is known for its participative fans throughout the games.
And with all these concerning issues it is quite difficult to practice and to be fully focused.

For the moment yes. We are until last order playing our "home" matches in a neutral venue. Cyprus is the likely venue chosen by Israeli teams because of its proximity to Israel and lower costs for the clubs and travelling fans.

Last week the Georgian FA sent a message to IFA that if they are available to host Israeli teams.
