Liga Leumit Thread - The former Kappa´s March Madness Thread

Liga Leumit is always a great race in terms of emotions and alternatives (maybe not in football quality) and we are also reaching the final stages of the competitions before the playoffs.

With four rounds to go, Ironi Ramat HaSharon and Kfar Saba lead the standings with 56 points each with a good 10 point margin over third place Maccabi Herzliya who plays Kfar Saba next week.
Hapoel Rishon Lezion, Hapoel Herzliya, Sektzia Ness Tziona, Hapoel Raanana and Bnei Lod are all fighting for a spot in the upper playoff and with the kizuz could dream of Ligat Ha´Al next season.

What are your bets? Which clubs will be the ones to promote?

Those two clubs certainly look favorites to come up, who are their leading players?

Both are favourites of course, they have been leading the competition since the beginning, but last season Kfar Saba was also on the top and who ended up promoting was Ashkelon who finished fifth place in the regular season. With the kizuz anything is possible. I see Maccabi Herzliya a serious candidate in promoting as well.

From Kfar Saba they have good players like Didi Unger, Omri Ron (another Maccabi Tel Aviv product), Yanic Cichyian, they have also the U-21 keeper Boris Kleiman. And this Liberian striker George Bayesh is making a good season with them as well. Their coach is Tomer Kashtan, son of Dror Kashtan.

Ramat HaSharon has good players like Zion Zemach (on loan from Maccabi Tel Aviv), Gal Nir and Reuven Oved (yes he is still playing despite evrything), Kobi Hassan, experienced Oren Nissim.

Both have really good chances to advance.

I missed, but I saw you didn´t start the thread and we were already midway March and the season is getting on its crucial stages.

Actually I started this thread in the intention to stay in a long term for other seasons as well instead of only speaking of it in March.

Never meant that, just thought that instead of having a thread only from March to May we could have a whole year thread regarding the competition.
This is still your speciality so we expect you to give some highlights to this thread.

Hapoel Kfar Saba and Liberias International Patrick Dupla, was found dead in his house in Liberia yesterday. The 20 year old striker was there in order to play for his country in a game against the Ivory Coast.

The cause of his death is still not clear, and theres all sorts of report from low sugar level in his body, Cardiac arrest, and even a possibility that the player was poisoned.

He was a very fast and promising striker.. scored 9 goals so far this season helping his team Hapoel Kfar Saba to lead the 2nd devision in Israel on thier way to the 1st devision and was one of if not the best of thier players, and again - the kid was only 20 years old =/

RIP Patrick

Shocking news indeed!! Mysterious death and hopefully this won`t take the Kfar Saba players psycologically down with this issue in their aim to reach Ligat Ha´Al.

May he rest in peace.

We have reached the final stage of the Liga Leumit. We have already four guaranteed teams (Hapoel Kfar Saba, Ironi Ramat HaSharon, Hapoel Rishon LeZion, Maccabi Herzliya) and three teams fighting for two spots (Hapoel Raanana, Hapoel Herzliya and Sektzia Ness Tziona).

Kfar Saba leads with 65 points followed by Ramat HaSharon with 60, the difference today would go to only three points after the kizuz. But the real deal at Leumit is the distance to third place Rishon Lezion. For Kfar Saba they have a 13 points lead which means a 7 points gap which is a considerable advantage in five rounds to be played. So the team commanded by Tomer Kashtan is really close to return to top flight.

Ramat HaSharon has kept itself during the whole season in the promotion spots, but had a small slump in the last rounds which enabled Maccabi Herzliya and Rishon Lezion to create hopes.

Raanana and Hapoel Herzliya are pratically qualified as they need one point to qualify for the top playoff, while Ness Tziona needs a miracle as it must beat Hapoel Herzliya away and cheer for Raanana to lose to Bnei Lod which has no motivation (is guaranteed in the mid playoff which means they could go to the beach already in April). These teams will most likely aim to reach the third place which means a last chance shot in a playoff game against the 14th place of Ligat Ha´Al.

On the lower part, Ahva Araba is pratically relegated while Ironi Jatt is trying to make a last grasp to reach Hakoach Ramat Gan and Hapoel Nazrath Illit which has made an impressive run in the second part of the competition to leave the red zone and have a more or less morale boost to the playoffs (They were deducted 9 points due to budgetary irregularities).

So when the Kizuz run start?

the top 2 get in and another 2 play for a 3rd lucrative spot for promotion?

Exactly. Top two promote automatically to top flight and the third place plays against the 14th place of Ligat Ha´Al.

Kizuz starts next week. The final round will be held this weekend just liike Ligat Ha´Al.

We had the definition of the other qualified teams for the top playoff today as Sektzia Ness Tziona managed a miracle (the name is suggestive as well) as they beat Hapoel Herzliya away and were benefited by Hapoel Raanana´s loss to Bnei Lod 2-1.
With that being said, all of them finished with 46 points, but Raanana had better goal difference (14), against Sektzia Ness Tziona (8) and Herzliya (7). The funny thing is that Hapoel Herzliya was the team that most won from them (13 against 12).

That is it folks, we have already the name of the two teams who will promote directly to Ligat Ha´Al next season: Ironi Ramat Ha Sharon and Hapoel Rishon LeZion. The latter beat Ramat HaSharon 2-1 at home and were benefited by a 1-1 draw from Kfar Saba at Raanana. Ramat Ha Sharon had qualified last round and guaranteed the first place despite the loss. Maccabi Herzliya beat Nes Tziona 1-0, but it wasn´t enough for her and will play one more season at Liga Leumit.

Ahva Araba and Jat Al Ahly were relegated to Liga Alef.

Tomer Kashtan resigned as Kfar Saba coach and the team has officially offered a contract to Eyal Berkovic.

The last presence in top flight for Rishon LeZion has been eight years ago since 2002/2003 season.

Kfar Saba will play Hapoel Petah Tikva in the playoff match.
