Derby II: Maccabi Tel Aviv Vs Hapoel Tel Aviv

Sunday at 20:45 we will have a promising derby between Maccabi and Hapoel Tel Aviv at Bloomfield Stadium.

Both teams are separted by four points, with the reds at first place with 45 points, while Maccabi with the arrival of Moti Ivanir has climbed close to the leaders and have colected 41 points aiming once the main goal of the season which is the Israeli Premier League title.

Hapoel comes from a tough win over Maccabi Netanya last Saturday, but during the week cruised in the State Cup with 7-0 road victory over minnows Kiriat Ata, while Maccabi was surprisingly defeated at the hands of Hapoel Petah Tikva 3-1 at Ramat Gan giving good bye to the State Cup even before the eight finals.

The game promises to be tense and with a very warm atmosphere, what to do you guys expect of this game? Who will win the derby?

At Maccabi, defense is the main problem since besides the long term injury of Nivaldo, the yellows are trying to make Avi Strul be fit in time for the match. Meanwhile the tall defender has only made light training. Savo Pavicevic has been feeling pain on his ankle, but won`t make him miss the derby.

Shechter is a great player indeed, should be a starter in our NT IMO, but unfortunately he is injured (fortunately for Maccabi in this derby though) and will be out pratically for all season. He had to make a surgery on his shoulder.

As for Medunjanin, he started the season very well, had a little slump, but with the arrival of the new coach Moti Ivanir, Medunjanin has began to show all his skill and becoming the player that everyone expected him to be at the beginning of the season. I personally like him very much, technical, good shot, good vision and passing and a level headed player. He isn`t so fast, but it is not his style, he should play as the playmaker, or the man behind the striker, something that sometimes he wasn`t positioned to do.

Let´s hope he could be focused in this derby and help us bring a victory which already 4 years we aren`t able to do against Hapoel.

To spice the derby: When asked about the possibility of moving to Maccabi Tel Aviv next summer (his contract ends in June) Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyema said that "even with one million dollars (Maccabi was rumoured to pay him one million dollars per season for a three year contract) I wouldn`t play for Maccabi". He also says Hapoel is better than Maccabi.


On field news: Toto Tamuz was placed in the starting lineup for the derby lineup, in the expense of Salim Toama. Dani Bondar will probably be the rightback susbtituting Omri Canada.

As for Maccabi, Pavicevic and Strul who were lightly injured will probably be fit for the derby. Atar also did not practice yesterday and Rengelov could play in his place instead. IMO it won`t work to have both Collauti and Rengelov upfront.

Maccabi Petah Tikva has been in great advantage in the derbys in the last years. Hapoel Petah Tikva is very bad this season and not very stable, but comes from an inspiring victory in the Cup over Maccabi Tel Aviv.

They are showing some signs of recovery this week with cup win over Maccabi Tel Aviv and now a victory in the local derby. This should boost a lot their moral.

Hapoel Petah Tikva has a rich history in Israeli football and have been in Europe with decent results as well such as a win against a strong Feyenoord side in 1992.

Just one correction, Israelivich will start instead of Alberman. IMO interesting insertion of Ivanir. This change could win us the derby.

A tense derby that ended 1-1. Badir in a header after a great play by Zahavi scored first and Rengelov equalized in good assist by Buzaglo.

Despite the goal Rangelov misses too many chances and is not the man to play in Maccabi`s attack. Collauti is better than him IMO and especially in that fantastic ball from Medunjanin in first half Collauti would have made something better.

We are still in the race, but we are lacking the "something more" to win. Hapoel are looking the best side to take the title despite their defense not being stable with Fransman and Badir.

Just a question on this derby.

I'm well aware about the differences in terms of support between these two clubs but would the determinant to who you would support always be what end of the political spectrum you are at?

Back in the day it was.. but as you know like with other countries football is totally diffrent then what it used to be.

but still even now if you'll make a poll, more Hapoel fans will support the left party, and Maccabi will support the right.


Anyways the game was preety even.. I was sure it's gonna be Haris's day, at the begining everything he did was magic.. but he slowed down, and Atar selfish style of play really hurt our attack.

Too bad cause his personal ability is 2nd to none in our league, even better then Shechter.. if this kid can sort this selfish thing out, he will play in one of the big leagues in Europe without a doubt in my mind.

Don't waste your time on jealously; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

The race is long, and in the end - it's only with yourself.

I agree on Atar, maybe he is the striker with the best technique in the league, but he is a bit selfish and some players already complained a lot with him. If maybe some coach make him understand to play in a more teamwork style he could make more difference as well. He has all potential to be a great striker and I could only see this is the only reason that he is not being called up for the NT.
