The UEFA Executive Committee today finished the first day of its inaugural meeting of 2011 under the chairmanship of UEFA president, Michel Platini.

Top of the agenda was the vote by those eligible on the Executive Committee to select the hosts of the 2011/13 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. The result of the vote meant that Israel were chosen to host the final tournament.

Five candidates were bidding to stage the tournament – Bulgaria, Czech Republic, England, Israel and Wales.

The draw for the 2011/13 UEFA European U21 Championship qualifying competition will take place at the House of European Football in Nyon on Thursday 3 February at 12.00CET.

The Executive Committee continues its meeting tomorrow, beginning with the visit of the European Union commissioner for education, culture, multilingualism and youth, Androulla Vassiliou. This meeting follows on from the recent positive European Commission communication on sport, published on 18 January.

Yup I just heard the news, this is awesome!

Huge thumbs up for Luzon, I know people will still be sarcastic with him in the press and all, but this guy comes in and delivers, like no one has before him.

You gotta give him credit when credit is due, a huge one in that matter.

Wierd Haifa wasn't declared as one of the cities to host the games, it will once they'll see it's built and all is done.

Now with our luck the world will end in 2012

Hope not....

But is this a taste for something else? Is there a way we can introduce another major tournament like Euro finals or possibly a CL/UEFA finals soon too?

Indeed great achievement for Israel. It will be nice to see these stadiums renewed and with the best European youth football on our soil.
Good chance for us to shine as well.

Not in the forseeable future.

Theres many other things we lack in, but the first I can think of is these big tournements demand a 60,000 seated state-of-the-art stadium to host the final, something I don't see us getting atleast for another 8 years orso.

How about an Israel/Cyprus joint bid for the 2020 European finals and an Israel/Egypt bid for the 2024 World Cup (yeah right!)

Not only this, why would we make a 60,000 seater stadium if we won´t fill it in during the rest of times? Maybe a sell out against one of the top European teams in the qualifiers, but surely not in other events other than a Champions League final.

Don´t forget we are a small country.

A bid with Cyprus could be interesting, both leagues are developing and more money is pouring in. But don´t think Uefa would choose us in all honesty.

I would like to see Teddy Stadium Renovated and Completely enclosed, no to a huge stadium in Ramat Gan, Yes to a renovation and expansion of Bloomfield, Build a new stadium in Be'ersheva thats bigger and modern.

Haifa
Be'er Sheva
Jerusalem
Tel Aviv

They should all have 25-40,000 size stadiums.

Yeah it is a good call, but for the U-21 tournament it won`t be necessary bigger stadiums. Petah Tikva for example is already underway and will be one of the probable stadiums to host the tournament. (Let`s not forget the Luzonim are from Petah Tikva).

We need a new national stadium in the place of Ramat Gan (even though with the Petah Tikva new stadium, it won`t make sense having a new at Ramat Gan where it will be pratically one beside the other.

Teddy would become really nice all closed.

Ramat Gan is not the capital of Israel, Jerusalem is....any national stadium should be in Jerusalem.

I agree with you, but normally Uefa makes things difficult for us when games are held in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv region is more guaranteed that is the reason why they say the national stadium is in Ramat Gan.

I didn´t say that I don´t agree with it, I only said that Uefa would make us a big headache about the issue. It would be nie to see the NT play at Teddy that give the most home atmosphere in the country, with the other part complete it will be a real home ground for Israel.
