Europa League 3rd QR: Maccabi Tel Aviv Vs. Olympiacos

Vs.

Maccabi Tel Aviv comes from a 3:2 aggregate against Mogren and now will face a tough encounter against traditional Greek outfit Olympiacos.
First game will be held in a empty Giorgios Karaiskakis stadium due to a punishment from Uefa and the second leg at Bloomfield.

Do you guys think Maccabi are capable of surprising Olympiacos?? The Greeks have also announced today they signed Gennaro Gattuso and he might even take part of the games against the yellowblue.

There are only two Israel clubs that know how to play in Europe and could beat Olympiacos, and Maccabi is not one of them. I can see one of the legs 0-0 or Maccabi winning 1-0, but I just can't see them beating Olympiakos over 2 legs. Their only hope is to play attacking football in Athens and score as many goals as possible even if they lose. And to play bunker style in Tel Aviv and try and counter attack.

Gattuso doesn't matter one way or another. He's getting old and has injury problems. He tore his ACL a few years back and no athlete can ever return to what they were before that injury. Gattuso is the least of Maccabi's problems.

Maccabis problem is Albert Riera is Klemi fvcking Saban starts at RB again.

I think Maccabi can and will do it though, but maybe it's just cause I can't say otherwise

I'm more concerned about Diogo and Dudu.

We could do this. We must believe in our potential. Of course they have overall better players than we do and they are favourites, but we also have our value and as I mentioned in another thread if they underestimate us we will surprise them.

Olympiacos is only wagered at a 75% chance to win their home game (I thought those should have been closer to 85-90%, especially since Maccabi tel Aviv lost to Mogren on the road)

So maybe you guys have a shot. Hopefully they underestimate you.

The betting websites say that Dinamo Minsk has a better chance of beating Haifa than Maccabi does at beating Olympiacos.

Olympiacos will play under closed doors so Maccabi won`t have the pressure of the fans, but still they are a better side and are favourites. Hopefully we get a decent result in Athens so that we could bring the tie to Tel Aviv and use our crowd atmosphere to help us in the game.

The medical department of the team is running against time to try to leave Eliran Atar fit and available for coach Yossi Mizrahi for the game against Olympiacos. The players suffered injury before the first leg against Mogren and only yesterday resumed light training in separate from the rest of the team.

Albert Baning and Liran Strauber who sustained minor injuries during the week rested, but are confirmed to play against the Greeks.

Hahaha

Not that I heard of, but I read today that Roni Gafni practiced among the starters as the leftback and Yoav Ziv into midfield. So this means our right side continues with Saban.

A mistake, too defensive, Ziv doesn`t defend well and in midfield we have better attackers of course. Sidiba will start instead of Yeini and we saw he was out of form. Like this we will play with only only striker, Buzaglo sacrificing himself on the right side and Medunjanin alone in midfield to arm the team. Is this the beginning of our fall in Europa League?

Yeah, first game in Athens with closed doors. Second game in Bloomfield one week later.

Kill me, but I just HATE all these changings.

I mean fvck sake, Nimni kept changing his starting 11 untill the 35th round last season... If we ain't gonna be doing good this season atleast 1 good thing will happen and thats Nimni will not be invovles in coaching/transfer related issues at the club.

Olympiacos seem to have a very dangerous looking team on the paper. Watch out for them.

Definitely we will. They have a team on paper, but they are just building up the team and they will play their home match on closed doors, so guess with this we manage to close a bit the gap.

I agree. The team is starting to gel up and suddenly he changes everything and sacrifices out key players to play where they shouldn`t or to be isolated and therefore easily marked.

Let`s hope we are wrong on this issue.

Yeini and Buzaglo on the bench for this game. I think it's a bad idea to leave Buzaglo out.

Probable lineup.

-------------Colautti------------
Medunjanin-------------Itzhaki--
---Ziv-------Baning----Sidibe---
Gafni----Nivaldo----Strul---Saban
-------------Strauber---------

This looks like they are going for a bunker style strategy. I think this makes sense playing at home, but on the road you have to score goals. This might be the most defensive formation I've ever seen.
