OT: Dimitry Salita

Dimitry Salita is a Jewish orthodox boxer born in Ukraine and raised in the US. Don´t know if you guys heard about him, but he had his first professional loss this Saturday where he lost to British Amir Khan.

Here is a video made by HBO with Salita giving an interview. Take a look:

Yeah it was a bad loss, but its not like Khan had never lost that bad either. A little more then a year ago, he got destroyed by Breidis Prescott. Khan was knocked down within 25 seconds, eventually losing by KO in 54 seconds.
If Khan can bounce back, so can Salita.

Well you got more you could cheer for: Yuri Foreman who's just won a world title (the first Jewish world champion in 30 years) and actually is studying to become a rabbi too.

There's also Roman Greenberg but he seems to have disappeared since suffering his first loss.

Feyenoord forum - the place to talk about this phenomenon

Thanks for the links Wally.

Salita could recover, actually in those videos his brother says Salita wanted to face stronger opponents.

Regarding Jewish boxers, there used to be many in the beggining of the 20th century, since it was a way to defend itself from anti semitic attacks.

The number reduced in the past 20-30 years, but it seems the boxers are returning.

Just for the record, Dimitry Salita was in Maccabi Tel Aviv´s game versus SC Ashdod Monday and lit the Hanuka candles before kickoff.
