Kappa's March Maddness Vol. 7

Cant pass March without talking about the infamous and controversial "Kappas March Maddness" The ultimate fight for promotion in the most entertaining leauge in Israel - Liga Leumit.

Teams from around the country vile for a fight to the promise land - Promotion into the top flight. Eventhough it looks obvious, 2nd place is usually a toughie to get. This year 5 teams will have the opportunity to touch the top Leauge and the fight is on!!!!

Here are the standings for Liga Leumit Rd. 24:

There is currently 9 rounds left in the season. A total of 27 points up for grabs. The team above which i stated in Bold have a chance to qualify. However there are teams in the mid table who still have a chance to qualify as there is almost 30 points that they can achieve. If they succeed in these 9 weeks, they can then be able to get into a better position and qualify for promotion......so there will be surprises coming up hopefully...

Here are the teams that are in Qualifying position:
1 Hapoel Haifa FC:
After Shapria Z'L passing, the team faltered into Liga Leumit and never regain their momentum. Only 10 years ago, they won the League. Since then they had trouble keeping up and as a result they were relegated a few years back. This has resulted in near misses of the league almost every single season then. Hapoel Haifa has a great team with a great reputation and fans to prove their worth..but they havent been up to par until this year.
Unfortuantely, they also havent been playing the best. They started the season almost unbeaten. Until they came into the Winter break...they started to become sloppy and giving up useless goals and not being determined..thinking that they are guranteed a place for next season, eventhough they could be soon fighting to keep their 1st place alive. Overall, they are destined to achieve success and go to Liga Ahal. But success for them would depend on how well they do this year and who they will purchase for next season...hopefully some strong and young players who can lead them somewhere.

2 Hapoel Acre FC:
Hapoel Akko has been a top favourite for a long time. A small team with not many hopes, but they have been fighting for the past few years in hopes of making it into Liga Ahal. Unfortunately, they always came short and with the news of 5 team promotion, they have taken advantage of the situation and are looking at the future with hope in the top tier of Israeli football. Hapoel Acco has always been considered a semi-professional team and their players are very amaturish. Can they survive in Liga Ahal? Only time will tell. They are currently 4 points behind leaders Haifa. Tied with Beer Sheva.

3 Hapoel Beer Sheva :
Hapoel Beer Sheva, along with Hapoel Haifa are one of the few teams in Liga Leumit who's is more familair with Israeli football fans in Liga Ahal than Liga Leumit. Bad successes over the last decade has forced them to go down. Eventhough they have been promoted a once or twice, they have been playing very poorly and their team looks like gold, but they are far from what they say they are. They start seasons strong but choke in the middle and as a result, they lose out. Even now they are tied for 2nd place...in 3rd..and although they have a comfortable setting..if the 5 promotion rule didnt apply and promotion was today....they would have lost yet again...and they lost the last few seasons on peanut difference's like Goal Difference....

4 Hapoel Ramat Gan FC:
Hapoel Ramat Gan is well known around the Israeli football scene for their triumphant debut in Europe as a Liga Leumit team. They have alot to prove and they have been to Liga Leumit before and they are considered a strong team eventhough they havent been playing very well and are stuck for 4th place with 39 points.

5 Amutat Hapoel Raanana:
Hapoel Raanana is also a strong show in Liga Leumit. Having proved themselves in the state cup in previous year Raanana is looking to make a name for themselves in the Sharon Region. Their skills are the same as Akko in my opinion but they have alot of potential room for success and they can do alot of damage. Currently they are ranked 5th with 37 points. 6th position is given to Ahi Nazareth whom have 29 points. From the looks of it...they seem far off, but with 29 points up for grabs....3 straight wins per say can bump Nazareth into 5th and push Raanana out of the dream....

Since next season the number of teams will increase we could say that we will have a Haifa derby next season in LIgat Ha´Al. Even if Hapoel Haifa is not at its peak in the competition right now, they will go through.
With 9 rounds to go and looking to the standings IMO we could say that the 5 first teams will promote: Hapoel Haifa, Hapoel BeerSheva, Hapoel Acco, Hapoel Ramat Gan and Hapoel Raanana.
The real fight will be for the remaining spot which is the 6th place that will face in a playoff game the 11th places of Ligat Ha´Al. We have currently three teams on dispute: Ahi Nazrath, Hapoel Jerusalem and Kfar Saba. This should be the tone until the end of the season.
Hope we could see a Jerusalem derby next season.

Hapoel Jerusalem won Bnei Lod, so things look sharp for them....
I personally think that Ahi Nazareth and Hapoel Jerusalem may suprise and in the end make the run into a do or die in Liga Leumit.
I am unimpress by the lack of momentum some players have in Liga Leumit. Since 5 teams have a chance to go....
not many wins this season. Alot of 0-0, 1-0, 1-1 2-1, 2-2 games..There was earlier games where it was good..but a majority of games ended in no more than 4 goals...look at the stats!

Interesting leauge next year.

What will be the outcome?
Who will survive?

Some of these teams..especially in the end looked crap..but they must spend to survive the leauge and bring in new talent.
Raanana and Achi Nazareth look the most weakest...
I guess Sachnin can survive one more year in the Israeli leauge

Definitely they will. With only two teams relegating from 16, Sakhnin won´t be be among the weakest ones. Probably a mid-table position.

Hapoel Haifa will have an intresting team next season, they will give some trouble for the big ones. Hapoel Beer Sheva is also apparently reinforcing themselves, they have signed Tvrtko Kale from Beitar and they kept the base of their last season.

Guess like you said, Raanana and Ahi Nazrath at a first look are the weakest ones, but you never know what could happen.

Im really happy for Beer Sheva. They look like a moderate team that is good for mid-level. They missed the Israeli Premiership so many times for pathetic reasons that its beyond comprehension.

Hapoel Haifa is also good and it was 10 years ago that they went and won the leauge. Now they are back in the premiership. I really like them and hope they can do some damage...

Yeah i predict they will have a decent season and who knows in the Cup they might surprise.

If we lost Kiriat Shmona from a different region from Israel, at least we got Beer Sheva back to spread a bit the geography of the clubs. Most clubs are located near the Tel Aviv area.

Thats very true.
Im kinda worried about the distance of some teams...since it seems like its a leauge in an area, rather than a nation....

We are one of the few countries that doesnt need to use airplanes to transport one team or another.. I think if Bnei Eilat make it to the leauge or have a state cup one day, than they will be useful...but anyway.... my point being is that usually when there is a game the player go to a hotel on friday, train the whole day, then do the same on Saturday and then play.......

Now it seems they can come and go...
Young players come at Friday..partied off Thursday... hungover and tired and train..rest or party again on Friday and come at the evening after shabbat to play a game..and you wonder why Pini Balili was the only Israeli domestic player to be fit 5 years ago?!?!?

Well, Pini Balili is a rare case. If he wasn´t a footballer he could have been a 100 meter athlete.

But you mentioned a very important issue here. The fitness matter. Unfortunately in Israel we don´t have the best preparations for the games. Normally the fitness drastically drops on the last 15 minutes. But it used to be worse.
