well, football aint the only sport in israel

like most of you probably know we are great in basketball, and also in volleyball (maccabi tel-aviv reached the quater finals in european championship last year), and were getting into it in handball (again maccabi tel-aviv, reached semi finals in european championship last year!)

so after maccabi tel-aviv BC won last year adriatic league, they anounced they wont keep playing in the adriatic league for another year because the euroleague is getting expanded and it will be hard to play in 3 different competitions together once again.

Israeli basketball national team will play this summer in the hardest Eurobasket 2013 qualifation group with - Serbia, Montenegro (both top teams in the european basketball), Slovakia, estonia, iceland.
israel most likely gonna qualify, beacause the 2 best teams of each group will qualify, also the 4 best 3rd places(from 6 groups)...
also our star in the NBA, Omri casspi gonna practicipate.

schedule -

15 August 2012
20:30 Montenegro vs. Israel

Maccabi Tel Aviv will play Cibona Zagreb tomorrow. Maccabi has bought Brown from Zalgiris, where he was an excellent teamleader. A very good purchase and I predict a win in Croatia tomorrow

Is there live streaming for Cibona vs Maccabi Tel Aviv?

81-79 for Cibona in Zagreb. It seems we will have a very hard season. Even though we brought in new players and Efi Birnbaum as coach, the pressure continues high as for the first time Maccabi hasn't won at least one title in a season. Now we already lost a game which in the past we would win. Maccabi will qualify for the next stage, but i don't believe it will go so far, hope i'm wrong just like many were last season when we reached the final.

Tomorrow Maccabi plays newcomers Air Avellino.

They "should" win as this is Air Avellino's first season the Euroleague and Maccabi's experience should be too much for them to handle.

Something is wrong with Maccabi though, the talent is there, but they just dont seem to "have it"

They really need Pini back.

Maccabi won this game BTW. Maccabi led by 27 points, but the last quarter they made too many mistakes. Arroyo was the MOTM, his ability is unbelievable.

Honestly, last season surprised me the team reaching the Final 4 and facing CSKA Moscow in the final. We lost the to Holon after 15 years of consecutive local league titles, but managed to reach far in the Euroleague.

Maccabi apparently lost a bit of its shine and the foreigners that come don't know what really represents to play in the club of such tradition. Plus quality is not the same as we had not so long ago with Huffman, Jasikevicius, Parker, Baston and Vujcic's departure from the club maybe closed that era. The Israelis that are in the club aren't given the needed support and Yotam halperin for example prefered to play in Olympiakos. Lior eliyahu almost left and Guy Pnini ended up staying with Hapoel Jerusalem instead of coming.

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Hapoel Jerusalem is always a tough game, especially when we play at Malha. It is a small court and the fans pressure a lot and with the rivalry between the clubs i don't even need to go further on the explanation.

Maccabi is now searching for a new coach. The fans want Pini Guershon back, Edelstein and even Tzvika Sherf are candidates.

The truth is the team lacks good players compared to what we were used to see and the Israelis aren't given too much credit. The team is playing with no soul.

Pini Guershon is back.

Maccabi Tel Aviv has signed a 3 year deal with coach Pini Guershon, who a few seasons ago drove Maccabi to historical Euroleague titles.

He comes to replace Efi Birnbaum, who has been very much contested by fans, media and especially the board.

IMO, Guershon will put some order in Maccabi and we will have good results again, but the way everything was made wasn't nice, they didn't treat Efi with respect while he was always very professional and polite. Good luck for Pini in his "new" job and for Efi in his future one.

Maccabi beat Real Madrid yesterday in Madrid to reach the quarter finals of the Euroleague. They finished 1st in the group and will play Partizan in the next round in a best of five series, with the winner going to the Final Four in Paris.

Maccabi has been playing well this year. They have a very different team from the past few years. The names are gone (Jaskevicius, Vucic, Parker) but they have a good core and Gershon is leading the charge!!!

I watched the game, real dominated first 3 quarters, but maccabi was fantastic in the 4th, and I think they won't have that much trouble against partizan except for the away games in pionir, but maccabi has 3 home games, and I very much doubt partizan can beat them in tel aviv.

It was a fantastic win indeed. And no one believed in Maccabi Tel Aviv. Mr. Pini Guershon once again guiding Maccabi to a Final 4 apparently, but it won´t be easy against Partizan.
