NHL Network to launch in US this month

NHL Network, already available in Canada, launches in U.S.

October 8, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NHL is launching its own network in the United States. The NHL Network, which has been available in Canada since 2001, will begin airing this month through carriage agreements with Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, DirecTV, Dish Network and Time Warner Cable.

The network will be accessible to 75 million homes, the league said. It will broadcast 50 live regular-season games as well as classic games, documentaries, instructional shows and highlights.

Games will be available in high definition.

"Our fans across the U.S. and Canada now can have access to the hockey programming they want, regardless the time of day," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a news release. "We have joined with six of the most-respected cable and satellite distributors in the industry, and that is testimony to the appetite and demand for the NHL."

It was added today on my digital cable... currently they're showing classic NHL from 1980 - Sabres vs Islanders game 6 of the conference semifinal.

Friday they will show Pens vs Stars.

It's good that they show two games a week.

Love the vintage games

Great News Time Warner gave us NHL Hetwork in HD and VS in HD. That's is about half of the NYC area.

Good to see VS andthe NHL trying to expand and gain more viewership.

Are you talking about NHL Network?

If so they show a few exclusive games for the week. They have a daily hour long highlight show. I don't remember a Hockey highlight show in the US since NHL 2 Night on ESPN. They also show some good documentaries, classic games etc. If you order the league pass you will automatically have access to the NHL Network.

If you live in Queens and have Time Warner it's on channel 458.
