Daunte Culpepper could start for Raiders with Josh McCown questionable

By JOSH DUBOW, AP Sports Writer
September 14, 2007

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) --

Daunte Culpepper is expected to start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday against Denver after Josh McCown left practice early Friday with a sore foot.

McCown sprained his right foot in the first half of the season opener against Detroit last Sunday and missed practice Wednesday because of the injury. He was able to practice Thursday, but was sore when he arrived at the team's facility Friday and could not finish practice. McCown is listed as doubtful.

"We're going to have to see when he wakes up tomorrow," coach Lane Kiffin said. "I'm anticipating Daunte starting for us. We'll go day-to-day with it."

McCown got the nod in the opener based on his better knowledge of the offense and went 30-for-40 for 313 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-21 loss to the Lions. He also threw two interceptions and fumbled late in the game to kill the Raiders' attempt at a comeback.

Culpepper, who signed with the team July 31, started four games for Miami last season before being sidelined with a knee injury. Culpepper is a former Pro Bowler, throwing 39 TD passes in 2004 when he was in Minnesota.

He has been slowed by knee injuries the past two seasons, when he has committed 18 turnovers while throwing only 18 TD passes.

Right guard Robert Gallery also left practice early with a hamstring injury and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Paul McQuistan, who started six games as a rookie last year, would be Gallery's likely replacement.

The Raiders will probably be without starting center Jeremy Newberry, who has not practiced all week because of a groin injury. Jake Grove is expected to start in Newberry's place.

Now, he WILL most definetely miss the Golden Knights home opener .... adn NEW stadia unveilling !!!!!

Strahan rips another reporter

Michael Strahan reminded the media he's just as quick to rip into a male reporter as a female, yesterday, when he took umbrage over being asked whether he'd find it ironic to break Lawrence Taylor's Giants sack record against Brett Favre, whose Packers come to Giants Stadium tomorrow. "How did I know six years later an idiot like you would ask me that question?" the touchy defensive end snapped at MSG's Anthony Fucilli. "I'd expect nothing less from you. And yes, I called you an idiot. You know better. I've known you how long? It's six years. You had hair six years ago." Fucilli pointed out that he wasn't asking because of the circumstances surrounding Strahan's NFL single-season record of 22 sacks from 2001, one that caused headlines because Favre appeared to gift Strahan with the record-setting sack, but because the two players are close friends.

Anthony Fucilli is your typical Jersey mafia looking reporter, more known for his humor and the fact he never picks the Giants to win in the prediction portion of a Giants debate show p

in fact he "covered" the World Cup for the MSG Network but of course all he talked about was Italy Hopefully there is a vid of this, but last year's was better

NFL picks for Week 2

September 15, 2007
By Chris Palochko
PA SportsTicker Staff Writer

It was a rough start to the season with an embarrassing and unacceptable 1-3 record. The New York Jets, who were tabbed my best bet, also still are looking for a way to generate some type of pass rush. Here are the picks for Week 2 (home teams in caps):

1. (Best Bet) San Diego (+3 1/2) over NEW ENGLAND - For the second straight week, I'll go against Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Randy Moss. The Chargers have payback on their minds after losing to the Patriots last season in the divisional round of the playoffs in a game they pretty much dominated for three quarter. The road also shouldn't deter the Chargers, who laid a 41-17 beating on the Patriots in Foxboro back in 2005.

PICK: San Diego, 24-20

2. Buffalo (+10) over PITTSBURGH - One has to wonder how emotionally ready the Bills will be following the devastating injury to tight end Kevin Everett in last week's opener. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Bills will show plenty of fight.

PICK: Pittsburgh, 23-17

3. ARIZONA (+3) over Seattle - Despite losing their season opener at San Francisco, the Cardinals looked like they may actually start resembling an NFL team. Last season, the Cardinals beat the Seahawks at home. They have a chance to turn the trick again.

PICK: Arizona, 20-17

4. TENNESSEE (+7) over Indianapolis - The Titans hung in against the Colts last season, beating them at home and losing on the road by one point. This should be another close game.

PICK: Indianapolis, 26-24

5. CHICAGO (-12) over Kansas City - While it's hard to lay points with any team that employs Rex Grossman as its quarterback, the Chiefs may have trouble scoring.

PICK: Chicago, 24-10

6. New York Jets vs. BALTIMORE (under 33 1/2) - It could be Kellen Clemens against Kyler Boller at quarterback. Expect plenty of defense.

PICK: Baltimore, 20-10

Hopefully Cowboys will win, because Philly will win agaisnt red sox and we need to stay ahead of them and not give away pointless losses agaisnt teams we should beat.

Also hopefully the Browns can cause a shock at rivals Cinci, although i doubt it
