The 2008 Stanley Cup Champions = Anaheim Ducks

- Ducks Re-sign Giguere

- Ducks Sign Schneider

- Ducks Sign Todd Bertuzzi

- Ducks Sign Brad May

- Still not done in FA as they are in the mix for Sheldon Souray

On top of all this they have not lost anyone (none of the top young players aka Getzlaf, Perry and McDonald) unless Sellane and Niedermayer retire but nothing is for sure and you never know when you have a team like this they might just take a pay cut and make another run @ the Cup.

As far as i'm concerned just keep the Cup in Anaheim... no one can beat em not only did they get bigger and stronger but they got even better with another puck moving d-men and the way their blue line looks right now Giguere might just get 20 shutouts next year. :nervous:

They already had Brad May so it's a re-signing. Bertuzzi is a joke now, a power forward with a bad back... yeah that's effective. Their best player and captain may retire.

It's almost impossible to repeat in the cap era.

Technically he was not re-signed because he didn't sign until after July 1st. He tested the market and actually got some better offers from other teams but in the end he decided he wanted to stay with the Ducks singing a 2 year deal. As far as Bert goes i saw him play every game for the Wings in the playoffs and he was horrible, he only had one good game in game 3 vs Calgary but other then that he was anything but the force he used to be. That being said he is going on a team where they have more depth then the Wings have and he will not be asked to do as much (he is not being asked to replace anyone aka being the Shanny of 1997) plus he will have all summer to rest his back and get to full health. If there was ever a team he would fit in perfectly with, it would be the Ducks. Scott Niedermayer is the key but the latest rumors are that he is being asked to return and he might be rethinking his retirement otherwise he would have officially announced it by now, same with Sellane.

It's always tough to repeat and your right the cap has made it even harder. But this Ducks team got better while others took a step back... What team in the west is gonna challenge them? the Wings? we lost quite a lot of pieces while not adding anything major and we have to pray 42 year old Hasek stays healthy... the Sharks? they would have the best chance but they also lost a few key players and they don't have enough depth to roll 3 lines like the Ducks... the Avs? they added a major player in Ryan Smyth but what about the defense and goalie situation? their depth is even worse then the Sharks... Canucks ? only if Luongo can be superman and make 60 saves but as we saw this year even by doing that they still lost to the Ducks in 5... Dallas? same case with them as Turco was awesome in the 1st round this year but he is still looking to get out of the 1st round and Modano's best days are behind him, this is nowhere near the team they had in the late 90's... Predators? Flames? Oilers? nah its not gonna happen... then in the East with Buffalo losing all its players they took a huge step back and to me they were the best chance from the East if they kept the team together. Flyers and Rangers look good on paper but as we saw last year with the Flyers the game is not played on paper. We have to wait and see how the chemistry thing works for the Ducks but i just don't see anyone beating them in a 7 game series.

Niedermayer apparently advised Burke to sign a blueliner because he was leaning towards retirement. Hence, Matthieu Schneider.

That said, I still think they can repeat. It's awfully tough to repeat in this era but if you look at the teams that have won it recently, none were as good as the Ducks. They're probably going to lose Nieds but man are they still a solid team.

They're crazy if they shell out the big bucks for Souray, he's good on the PP but absolutely useless at even strength and on defence. Montreal should've ripped someone off at the deadline instead of keeping him and losing him for nothing.
