Kansas City Penguins???

Kansas City arena operator woos Penguins with offer of free rent

Lemieux, ownership group meet with KC officials

Rumor: Lemieux visits Kansas City

"They have told us they will make a decision within 30 days," Leiweke said. "We will know within 30 days whether they are going to work out their issues in Pittsburgh and get an arena built, or whether they will ask the NHL for permission to move the team to Kansas City."
So in about 30 days we will know if the Pens will be moving from Pittsburgh to Kansas City... if the city of Pittsburgh doesnt man up and give this team a new arena then i'm afraid there is no other choice here. Sadly it would be moving to another non-hockey city so i'm sure Bettman and his NBA style expension buddies will be happy about this but for true hockey fans with tradition this will truelly be a loss and another good hockey market will be gone from the NHL.

I wouldn't consider Pittsburgh a good hockey market. It's adequate, definitely better than KC but a good market is a bit of a stretch. If it wasn't for Mario, would've folded back in the late 80's.

Having said that, moving the team to KC would be a tragedy.

Sources: Pittsburgh arena deal not done
http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=194369&hubname=nhl

Tulsa joins growing list of suitors for Penguins
Minor league hockey team owner in Oklahoma hopes to lure Penguins with 18,000-seat arena...
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07032/758485-61.stm

There was some rumors early this week that a deal for a new arena was done but it seems like it was not true and the Pens future in Pittsburgh is still in doubt.

I got a Pittsburgh Penguins jacket from an uncle back when I was 12-13 years old and Mario ruled with Jagr and Francis - although I knew precious little about ice hockey back then. Either way I've always been partial to them, and I simply hate the concept of franchises moving from cities where the teams have histories and dedicated fans.

It would be a mockery of the Pens fans if no solution can be found, and they have to see a future Stanley Cup winning generation jet out just as they're coming back from some dreadfull years.
Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury with several other talents like Christensen thrown in... :eekani: . That's a juicy future for Penguins guaranteed as regards talent, and after the last 8-0-2 period they look like getting themselves into the play-off, where only two teams in the east really look a cut above.

APATHY: A word now fallen into disuse due to a lack of concern for it.

Well... that goes without saying. How do you feel about the Coyotees now, then?

i HATE the coyotes. heres why.
1.when the team was TAKEN from us, the club had said they would sever all ties with winnipeg. meaning they would try to form their own history. fair enough. BUT....they didnt. look on their site and see who is the COYOTES all time scoring leader....Dale Hawerchuck....hmmmm, ah..HE WAS A JET!!....
2. the coyotes continue to steal from us. the odd time they made the playoffs, they used OUR WHITE OUT!!!!....again, where is their history?
3. the coyotes address is WHITE OUT DRIVE!!!
i HATE THEM SO MUCH. and GRETZKY should be ashamed to be a part of that org. mind you, when he was playing for the oilers, he made a career out of killing us...lol.
just so you know though glen, the vid i posted also showed ANOTHER team that was robbed from its fans...the HARTFORD WHALERS.

2004, Aug. 10 - The Coyotes temporarily un-retire No. 9 - which was retired by the franchise in honor of Hall of Famer Bobby Hull - so that Bobby Hull’s son Brett Hull can wear No. 9 as a Coyote.
http://www.phoenixcoyotes.com/team/team_history.php

The sad part about is they still have the banners in there arena and they think the Jets are now there own history.

actually NY has a big fan base in hockey, its just the local media don't talk about it, even Joe B on WFAN said the bosses goes nuts if they spend more than 30 minutes talking about hockey. :rollani:

which is why I listen to the NY Hockey podcast, poor quality but great talk radio about the three local hockey teams

Glen, you had to get lions67 all revved up on the franchise relocation issue didn't you?

When the "white out" enters the discussion you know you've crossed the line.

Don't worry, I wouldn't be practicing what I preached if pursued to answer.

In Kansas City, the new $276 million Sprint Center will be ready to open this fall. To lure the team, officials are offering the Penguins a deal that includes no rent, no construction costs, no upfront payments, and half the building revenues.
The city of Pittsburgh really needs to step it up now cause with an offer like this it wont be long until they move to KC.

Penguins needed to stay in Pittsburgh, it would've been awkward to have them in Kansas...It was weird for me to watch the Avalanche or the Coyotes from the Jets and Nordiques...Penguins would've just been a blow to the NHL, they have good fans there and decent history.
