Yeah, but he rarely is. That´s why I would not build a team around him. In summer of 2018 he´s 34!!! Time for changes now. Time for a new beginning. Without all the big egos. They had their chance, and failed.

It really isnt that surprising how bad Netherlands are when u consider the back line they had! I laughed at it the other day when somebody posted. Tete has been better than I anticipated for Ajax so far but he is still very raw and has been thrown in the deep end. Riedewald is even rawer and just not ready yet for such a high level, he's not even been very good for Ajax. Bruma has always been a bit of a donkey - is good enough for Eredivisie but really not an International level player. Van Dijk is the only defender there that I'd be comfortable with. And ZOet is just a decent keeper but not a reassuring experienced force like van der Saar was back in the day.

Obviously there arent really any other better options necessarily, that's a whole different subject tho! Likes of Rekik, Kongolo, Veltman, van der Wiel, van der beek, etc... are also very worrying as alternatives!

I think its gonna be a while until you get some real class players again - and thats only if players Nouri, Mirani, de Ligt, de Wit brothers, Boultam, Bazoer, Bergwijn, Donny van der Beek, etc... reach their potential

I also think Propper should of been in squad, especially after his performance against Ajax

I think Bruma has improved in recent months actually. For PSV, in Europe and apparently he has been good for Oranje (in relation to everyone else...).

Van Dijk was supposedly the man being the donkey this evening.

Isn't this the result everyone wanted though?

This way they can kick Danny Blind and the Old Boys out

Bruma might not be international class but this season he is really in form and hasn't looked out of sorts in either the Eredivisie or the UCL. He is having the best season of his career.

I feel bad for van Dijk. Hopefully he gets another chance under the new coach

Danny Blind should resign or at least be fired.

Let's go back to a coach who actually has some experience. Not many options though except for Ronaldo Koeman who won't do it because he likes it at Southampton. Maybe Dick Advocaat, although he's probably too old (though still sharp). Sadly, there are not many great Dutch coaches around anymore.

Only 1 point against the teams above us. We clearly didnt deserve anything more. Nice for Turkey that thet got an automatic spot. Better them then Hungary.

As I see it the NT is simply going through a transitional stage. A lot of the older players are past their prime and the younger players haven't quite reached their prime. No need for drama. They'll be back at the world cup.

Interesting piece. Time to get a coach from abroad says Simon Kuper
