NL - MEX

Sunday 6pm

It's surprising to see Mexico do so well as they were soft away from home in qualifying and getting pelters.

Chance of a Russia-like Euro 2008 mess-up?

We're seen as favourites after a perfect score in the first group stage and Mexico are seen as eternal 2nd round exit boys.

De Guzman and Van Persie will be back for this one. Who will van Gaal go for? de Guzman or Wijnaldum?

I bet Krle would prefer Lex over them ditto with the rest of the nation. Told you it was a disgraceful decision to not pick him.

Lex over De Guzman and Wijnaldum any day of the week, no friggin' doubt!

You might think I'm kidding, but what the f*ck have these 2 actually added to the squad? At least Lex would be putting in tackles left and right and playing the same headless passes. He might have actually gotten into a scoring position as well (and fluffed it obviously ).

Back to the game, I feel like Holland have a great chance to reach the final 8 here. Mexico are a very exciting side, but watching them you constantly get the feeling there's a very thin line between success and failure for them. Bunch of high risk, high tempo rollers. As always though luck will play it's part too.

I thought de Guzman had a good game against Portugal?!

I'd go for de Guzman over Wijnaldum btw. If Holland were to go a goal behind, I'd rather have de Guzman in my team, who can pick a pass, than Wijnaldum. Defensively they're both awkward, but what can you do with no Lex and Clasie blackmarked. Maybe Clasie's knee injury has a part to play btw?

Fer starting would be hilarious. Yeah, he got a goal with his first touch of the ball, but he really is a big lump. Slow on the ball too.

Once again, makes me beg for de Guzman, with Clasie blacklisted.

Don't like it that it's an early game.

Meaning it will be hot which will suit the Mexicans better.

De Guzman would be the perfect player to balance the midfield but he hasn't shown enough to remain in that position. Wijnaldum is horribly out of place for me next to De Jong, Fer doesn't deserve to play there either.

Maybe Clasie hasn't proved it to van Gaal in training?

I agree with what Co Adriaanse just said on Dutch television. His idea is to swap Sneijder en Wijnaldum, so Wijnaldum as attacking midfielder and Sneijder next to De Jong. Sneijder has a great pass which he can't really use on his current position. Wijnaldum can reduce the gap between the midfielders and the front line.

I was thinking that myself, but I thought the team would want someone more talented than Wijnaldum in attacking midfield, although I don't think there is anyone else suitable.

Why do people say Clasie is blacklisted, blackballed? If Van Gaal didn't believe he was useful, why would he have wasted a roster spot on him?

It's a fall from grace though. He was a sure starter in qualifying.

Now Wijnaldum is going to start against Mexico as our second holding midfielder.

Expected line-up:

Cilessen

Janmaat - De Vrij - Vlaar - Blind - Kuijt

De Jong - Wijnaldum
Sneijder

Robben - Van Persie

awww that pic.

Why´s everyone comparing with 2008?! Boulas daughter died before the Russia game, all the joy and happiness within the team until then was gone with that drama. The loss was logical given the circumstances.

Plus I would say some underestimating the opponent, and Hiddink knew a thing or two about the Dutch team.

I doubt others were affected by Boulahrouz.

Like Azerkid said, Guus got one over us. Our centre backs got closed down so the ones who had time on the ball were players who couldn't pass a ball over ten yards like Boulahrouz.

Paul Verhaegh is expected to start over Janmaat.

Bit of a surprise, but then again, Janmaat has just been ok in the world cup. Caused a penalty against Australia and was given a hard time by Oar.. Steady most of the time and only been able to go forward once or twice per game.

Verhaegh looked decent in his only outing for Holland in that friendly against Portugal. Don't know how he is going forward, but wish him the best tonight.

Only Louis knows why.....Maybe not the worst idea to bring in a "fresh" player with this climatic conditions.

BMI still not fit enough?

Louis is taking his experimenting too far IMO. It can only go good for so long before this house of cards falls down.

BMI training again, but not deemed ready enough to start.
