Yeah, much better than the first half. Still, hard to tell if they can show that level against a stronger opponent

Second half was better. Not a brilliant game. Tuesday game will be better to realize what we're made of.

Very good 2nd half by Stanciu.

When's the last time we won by 3 goals? Faroes in 2015?

If we beat the Montenegrins, they have a very good chance of relegating. This is not great, as they have something to fight for.

Good news: we can't relegate unless we lose 8-0 in Podgorica and some other surprises happen (Cyprus beats Norway)

League C next time around will probably feature:

Slovakia, Turkey, N. Ireland, Ireland, Romania, Israel, Greece, Norway, Montenegro, Hungary, Albania, Georgia, Belarus, Macedonia and Kosovo

But I dunno if the NL means anything in non-Euro campaigns.

If we want a decent shot at qualifying, we must BEAT MONTENEGRO. If we don't we will be in Pot 4!

Otherwise, Bulgaria already has 7 points, unreachable if they finish 2nd. If Norway loses vs Cyprus they will end 2nd, 6 +1 at best. Probably the team in this group will be the best 2nd placed.

Greece will likely end 2nd, 6 -1 (they play the last placed). If we win, we will pass them.

Scotland will likely beat Israel, making Israel 6 +1 at best. A draw would mean Scotland has 7 points.

In summary, to be seeded 3rd for the main round: We need to beat Montenegro, and (Scotland needs to beat Israel by 2 goals OR Norway needs to lose to Cyprus by 2 goals). Zero chances if we don't win Podgorica.

It doesn't, that's why it's UEFA NL.

About the game itself:

Bancu and Benzar active in attack, involved in the game, but not so good defending

Sapunaru was our worst player, many little faults.

Moti was solid for the most part, our best strict defender.

Anton did quite well at this level, but I still don't think he's a solution

Stanciu only played for about 20-25 minutes but created the 2nd and scored the 3rd, I call that results.

Maxim was very active, skilled, tried hard, but wasn't effective.

Chipciu did his usual game, and ran a lot.

Keseru is a much better CAM than ST. I actually think he did very well compared to other games. But we have better options.

Puscas: well done for his quasi debut. Safe goal, fought for high balls, the ref didn't seem to like him.

Deac: did OK but we kinda slowed down after he entered

Ianis: Let's see if he's the new Hagi. Not much to mention yet.

Cicaldau: Not much to mention either, good to get some minutes.

It would be ridiculous to see a Pot D team at the World Cup, but has there been an official announcement on how it works (i.e. that only regular groups count for WCQ)?

I'm more interested in the play-off for Euro's and who has the right to play it at the moment.

GSP says this:

Quote:
Spre a prinde un culoar de calificare la Euro 2020 dinspre Liga Națiunilor, e nevoie să se îndeplinească mai multe condiții:

-Măcar una dintre echipele clasate pe primul loc în grupele din Divizia C a Ligii Națiunilor să obțină biletele pentru CE prin preliminariile clasice, care se vor disputa anul viitor;

-România să se numere între cele mai bine clasate formații de pe locul secund din Divizia C pentru a prinde play-off-ul de patru echipe, din care una singură va mai prinde un loc la Euro. Dacă Serbia se califică din preliminariile clasice, România nu intră automat în play-off doar fiindcă provine din grupa Serbiei;

I don't know why UEFA do things so complicated. It would be better and more fair if we take Serbia's place in case they qualify directly. The way UEFA has it, teams in weaker groups from the same division benefit in a double sense.

In any case we have to win in Montenegro. Losing and drawing is essentially the same.

Very complicated...too bad we didn't beat them at home (having no fans hurt us). We can beat them, but this team doesn't guarantee it

Keseru did well, but it's clear he only works at this level. Against stronger teams he dissapears. Chipciu is doing well, I can't deny it. Right now he must be starter on the right

I liked Maxim, he had a big part on the second goal and was unlucky not to score

Benzar won't travel to Montenegro, I guess he got more than slightly injured in those dying minutes.

More complications follow:

@GICA

So, 20 teams qualify directly, right? Assuming no surprises, i.e. no (C league team not in the first 2 spots in their group) or D league teams qualifying directly -- quite likely IMO, the best such team is ~Montenegro, not favorite to qualify, that means all 2nd spots in League C get at least a play-off spot, as the top 32 teams. 20+12 (3 play-offs)

UEFA does something weird, but let's assume this happens. For simplicity I will assume Iceland don't qualify directly but Serbia do.

Then League D play-offs:
Macedonia, Georgia, Kosovo/Azerbaijan, Belarus

League C play-offs:
Scotland, Bulgaria, Finland, Norway (as best 2nd placed)

League B play-offs:
4 not qualified League B teams

"League A" play-offs:
Iceland + 3 2nd placed League C teams (e.g. Romania, Greece, Israel) as best non-qualified teams

UEFA rules:

"The 16 selected teams will be chosen as follows, starting with League D and working up to League A:[5]

All available group winners will be selected.
If a group winner has already qualified through the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying group stage, they will be replaced by the next best-ranked team from the same league which has not also already qualified.
If fewer than four teams from a given league have failed to qualify, then the remaining spaces for that league will be allocated by the overall Nations League ranking:
If the league has a group winner selected for the play-offs, the next best team in the overall ranking from a lower league will be selected.
If the league has no group winner available, the best team in the overall ranking will be selected."

TL;DR: A draw in Podgorica will probably get us in the "League A" play-offs

But the playoffs from league A also provide the champion of the NL. So, how could a lower pot team play there? I'm confused

No, different things.

The NL Final Four is the one you're thinking of: Portugal, England, Netherlands/France, Belgium/Switzerland.

Then you also have a play-off for any League A teams that haven't qualified... if any, plus the best teams not involved in any other Euro 2020 play-offs.

Jesus Christ, UEFA couldn't do a more complicated thing. Wasn't better to do it simple?
